Overview

Microsoft’s Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA) Department has an opening for an experienced professional to lead Microsoft’s government affairs and public policy in Singapore, reporting to the Head of ASEAN Government Affairs.

The position offers a unique opportunity to work with regulators, government stakeholders, industry peers and thought leaders on emerging complex technology policy. The role involves close collaboration across matrixed Microsoft’s organization in the region and worldwide, in line with the internationally-recognized role Singapore plays in shaping global policy agenda on issues such as artificial intelligence (AI). Successful individual will also represent CELA function on Microsoft Singapore Leadership Team, working closely with the Managing Director, Public Sector Lead and other senior business leaders in the country.

Responsibilities
  • You will leverage external and internal partnerships to advance Microsoft’s public policy agenda, as well as establish an intelligence network to support our business objectives. You’ll also provide counsel to the business, engineering and other key internal stakeholders on public policy topics, and recommend ways to advance our policy and political agenda.
  • You will represent Microsoft externally by participating in events, supporting executive engagement along the way. You’ll also advice on political and geoplitical landscape, provide strategic vision, and develop a communication framework or messaging.
  • You’ll support Public Sector and other business opportunities, and build our reputation as a globally trusted technology provider. You will work closely with regulators and other key policy-making bodies as customers, asissting them on their journey deploying advanced technology, such as AI.
  • You will act as an expert and provide direction on large, critical projects, resolving complex conflicts and ensuring team alignment. You’ll also collaborate with senior stakeholders and experts to understand and align on objectives, priorities, and resources.
  • You’ll contribute to our global public policy work in areas such as AI; in particular where Singapore’s regulations may influence policy decisions of other countries.
Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy, Law, Public Admin, or related field AND 4+ years work experience in Government Affairs, Corporate Affairs, Public Policy, or Government. OR 6+ years work experience in Government Affairs, Corporate Affairs, Public Policy, or Government.
  • 5+ years experience in developing and managing strategic relationships to advocate and influence public policy priorities.
  • Solid understanding of policy-making/regulatory processes in Singapore, as well as grasp of key decision-makers and influencers, in particular in technology policy area.
  • Self-starter with sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Team player, proactively supporting other colleagues, contributing to their success, as well as welcoming their input into your swim lane in support of theirs (and your own) growth opportunities.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in technology policy, in particular in regulations impacting digital technologies such as cloud, AI, digital platforms or datacenter infrastructure.
  • Abilty to work in a dynamically changing internal and external environment where you may need to take ownership of designing and deploying solutions to complex problems at the intersection of regulations, engineering and business.
  • Ability to navigate large, evolving, matrixed organization with confidence to influence without authority and operate without established processes for each and every matter.
  • Interest in being part of an international team, where projects may require working on matters in other geographies in Southeast Asia/Asia/worldwide (remotely as well as travelling).
