Roles & Responsibilities

Position Description

Provide strategic business and operational leadership to the JGM.

Oversee the development and implementation of the long and short-term objectives, policies and operating plans for the JGM's activities. Such business strategies will be aligned with the Company's strategy and vision agreed by the shareholders.

  • Coordinate and supervise trading and origination activities regarding the supply to the JERA Power stations across the business in support of operation
  • Ensure the Optimisation through timely and flexible delivery of coal and LNG considering both plant condition and fuel specification
  • Ensure the flexible delivery schedule with dedicated vessels and market vessels
  • Ensure compliance of staff with rules and regulations relating to the JERA Power stations, and with the company's trading and optimisation strategy
  • Ensure appropriate training and on-going communications to ensure rules, regulations and management expectations are clearly understood.
  • Drive and champion the JGM's risk and control culture throughout the business.
  • Manage business in cooperative manner with JERA's Head of Optimisation
  • Always put priority for the security of supply to JERA power stations
  • Share as much operational information as possible to facilitate proper decision making
  • Develop a strong and trusted relationship with JERAHQ and Power stations
  • Identify the plant condition and the future strategy of Power station for expanding and improving the operation corresponding to the diversified source
  • Identify profitable transactions for both JERA and JGM
  • Give operational advice for improving Coal and LNG portfolio to maximise value for both JERA and JGM
  • Drive the planning and execution of personnel exchange training programs between JERA and JGM, coordinating with HR team.
  • Personnel management of staff seconded from the JERA
  • Personnel evaluation
  • Coordination with the JERA regarding personnel change

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Positively represent JERA Trading in relationships with JERA Power stations, industry organizations and other key outside parties in close coordination with the respective representatives from the shareholders/asset owners.
  • Ensure effective and adequate internal and external management information systems for making the final decision of delivery and position supporting the optimization activities.
  • Keep and improve the appropriate organization or relationship for solving the matters arising in cooperation with JERA, JERA Power station, and outside parties.
  • Abide by internally established control systems and authorities, to lead by personal example and encourage all employees to conduct their activities in accordance with all applicable laws and the Company's standards and policies.

Key Qualifications and Experience required

  • At least 20 years' experience within a power utility in Japan
  • Must have sales or buying or operating experience both coal and LNG in the power utility
  • Must have a broad knowledge of the Japan power industry especially JERA with understanding of coal and LNG
  • The ability to evaluate the value from both sides' of profitability and reliability
  • The ability to effectively value, manage and support large, complex originated positions
  • Be familiar with a range of JERA Power Plant operation
  • Written and verbal fluency in Japanese (JLPT N1) or similar, is a must as the candidate must manage Japanese speaking stakeholders both at working and management levels
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software
  • Possess at least a bachelor's degree in a related field

Person Specification

  • Candidates with Fuel sector background and able to demonstrate confidence in managing operation of significant size and complexity are preferred.
  • Have a record of success operating at senior management team level and is capable of providing genuine business leadership.
  • Able to evaluate comprehensively through the value chain from upstream to downstream
  • Demonstrate real vigour and be comfortable expressing robust opinions for improving company performance.
  • A proven ability to recruit for, build, develop, motivate and lead high performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Extensive staff management and leadership skills.
  • Able to operate at senior management level.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
