Chef Assistant

Key Responsibilities:
- Food Preparation:Assist in preparing ingredients by washing, chopping, and portioning vegetables, fruits, and meats.
Help prepare sauces, marinades, and dressings as instructed by the chef.
Measure and prepare ingredients for recipes according to specific portion sizes. - Cooking Assistance:Support the chef in basic cooking tasks such as boiling, frying, or grilling as directed.
Help plate dishes and ensure presentation meets restaurant standards.
Monitor and maintain cooking times to ensure dishes are served promptly. - Kitchen Maintenance:Ensure workstations, utensils, and kitchen equipment are kept clean and organized.
Maintain kitchen cleanliness and hygiene by following food safety protocols, including proper storage, sanitizing surfaces, and disposing of waste.
Assist in dishwashing and the cleaning of pots, pans, and kitchen equipment. - Inventory and Stock Management:Assist in managing kitchen inventory by organizing and stocking ingredients.
Monitor food supplies and report shortages to the chef or kitchen manager.
Ensure that ingredients are stored properly to avoid waste and spoilage. - Support Kitchen Operations:Assist with receiving food deliveries and storing them in proper locations.
Follow the chef’s instructions to help streamline kitchen operations and ensure the kitchen runs smoothly.
Help with preparing special orders and catering events. - Teamwork:Work collaboratively with the chef and other kitchen staff to ensure efficient meal service.
Respond quickly to the needs of the chef and be flexible in adjusting tasks as needed.
Communicate any kitchen issues or potential delays to the chef.
- Basic Culinary Knowledge: Familiarity with kitchen equipment, food preparation, and cooking techniques.
- Organization: Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Attention to Detail: Ensure that all tasks are performed with accuracy and precision.
- Physical Stamina: Able to stand for extended periods, lift heavy ingredients or kitchen equipment, and work in a high-pressure environment.
- Communication: Good communication skills to follow the chef's instructions and collaborate with the kitchen team.
- Adaptability: Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing kitchen needs.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Culinary school or food service experience is a plus but not always required.
- Previous kitchen or food preparation experience preferred.
- Fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Flexible working hours, including weekends, holidays, and nights.
- Standing for long periods, handling hot surfaces, and working under time pressure.
