Jobdescription

Google isn't just asoftware company. The Hardware Operations team is responsible formonitoring the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure behindGoogle's powerful search technology. As an Operations Technician,you'll install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware(like servers and its components) and server software (likeGoogle's Linux cluster). You'll also take on the configuration ofmore complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges,switches and networking protocols. You'll participate in or leadsmall project teams on larger installations and develop projectcontingency plans. A typical day involves manual movement andinstallation of racks, and while it can sometimes be physicallydemanding, you are excited to work with infrastructure that is atthe cutting-edge of computertechnology.

Qualifications

Jobresponsibilities

  • Contribute to efforts/projects in the deployment,maintenance, and support of current and new data centerinfrastructure.
  • Learn and apply skills inrepairing and troubleshooting different machineplatforms.
  • Participate in complextroubleshooting and resolve critical technical issues.
  • Test and troubleshoot new server and network hardwarecomponents and designs.
  • Install and maintainswitches, routers, and other networking gear. Configure andtroubleshoot Linux OS-relatedissues.

Minimumqualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practicalexperience.
  • Experience diagnosing andtroubleshooting one of the following: operating systems andcomputer/server hardware or networking protocols.
  • Experience Data Centers, Linux, Hardware, Networking, OSIModel, Written Communication, Teamwork,Communication.

Preferredqualifications

  • Experience in maintenance of server systems.
  • Experience working within a data center or networkoperation center environment.
  • Experience withtroubleshooting hardware and network issues using Linuxtools.
  • Knowledge in Networking, includingtopology and protocol understanding.
