Position Overview:


As the Coastal Forestry and Mangrove Conservation Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to lead and oversee the design, implementation, and management of mangrove conservation and restoration projects in accordance with VERRA REDD+ methodologies.

You will work closely with our interdisciplinary team of scientists, ecologists, experienced nature-based solutions (NBS) carbon project development leadership and local stakeholders to develop strategies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and generating carbon credits through these projects.

You will be working within the core ClearWind NBS development team in Singapore, leading the sectoral focus on mangroves for the development of our projects, with a focus on:

Position Responsibilities:

Project Development and Planning:

  • Work within the core ClearWind NBS development team to identify potential sites for mangrove conservation and restoration projects based on scientific criteria and local community input.
  • Conduct feasibility assessments and develop detailed project plans aligned with VERRA REDD+ standards and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to secure necessary permits and approvals for project implementation.

Mangrove Conservation and Restoration:

  • Lead field surveys and assessments to monitor the health and status of existing mangrove ecosystems.
  • Develop and implement scientifically sound methods for mangrove restoration, including reforestation and rehabilitation.
  • Coordinate with local communities and partners to engage in mangrove protection initiatives and sustainable resource management practices.

Carbon Credit Generation:

  • Design and implement carbon accounting methodologies to measure and verify carbon sequestration and emission reductions from mangrove conservation and restoration efforts.
  • Support the preparation and documentation and reports to register and certify carbon credits under VERRA REDD+ standards.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and verification bodies to ensure compliance with established carbon accounting and reporting requirements.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with our local operating companies in various countries across Southeast Asia to foster development, capacity building and collaboration to ensure the success and sustainability of projects.

Research and Innovation:

  • Stay updated with the latest scientific findings and industry trends related to coastal forestry, mangrove conservation, and carbon credit generation.
  • Integrate innovative techniques and technologies into project design to enhance effectiveness and efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • A master's or doctoral degree in forestry, environmental science, ecology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in implementing mangrove conservation and restoration projects, ideally following REDD+ methodologies.
  • Indepth knowledge of VERRA REDD+ standards and the carbon credit generation process.
  • Familiarity with Southeast Asian coastal ecosystems and the socioeconomic context of the region.
  • Strong project management skills and experience in leading interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and GIS tools for project planning and monitoring considered an asset.
