Professional Officer at SIT

Job Purpose:

The Professional Officers Division (POD) at SIT comprises a specialized team of academic staff with profound industry expertise gained through years of experience. These officers enhance student learning by providing an industry-oriented perspective, fostering applied learning, and engaging in applied research within the curriculum.

Professional Officers play a vital role in creating authentic learning environments that promote discovery and innovation. They serve as mentors during practical sessions, Capstone Projects, and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Additionally, they collaborate with faculty on industry innovation projects, offering valuable solutions to the industry.

Aside from their involvement in teaching and research, Professional Officers oversee the management of laboratory facilities and resources at SIT. Together with Technical Officers, safety professionals, and administrators, they develop centralized policies to ensure the safe operation of laboratories.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and instruct labs and practice modules.
  • Guide students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP).
  • Lead innovation initiatives alongside industry partners.
  • Manage labs and equipment for academic programs and research purposes.
  • Ensure lab safety protocols are followed.

Job Requirements:

  • A degree in Building Services, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields. Additional qualifications such as Masters, PhD, or professional certifications like PE/CEng are advantageous.
  • Extensive technical expertise with over a decade of experience in mechanical systems in building services or facility design consultancy.
  • Desirable experience in:
  • Mechanical building systems design and management.
  • Utilization of BIM and CAD software for engineering works.
  • Knowledge of building services systems like HVAC, refrigeration, and fire testing.
  • Prior exposure to building and facility management.
  • Familiarity with materials, property testing, and fire testing.
  • Proficiency in industry practices, Green Marking, and energy management.
  • Passion for innovation projects and problem-solving.
  • Strong leadership skills and a collaborative approach to student engagement.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
