The Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) Office at NTU is established under the NTU I&E initiative to drive overall synergy, coordination and interaction among the pillars along the innovation and entrepreneurship value chain at NTU. The Office aims to accelerate the University's efforts to translate NTU's scientific discoveries, innovations and creative work into technological and social entrepreneurship activities that benefit industry and society.

To push technologies from prototype to market, the I&E Office is in search of a Chief Master Engineer to join the team. The chosen Chief Master Engineer will act as the vital point of contact for prototyping and minimum viable product (MVP) services in NTU. Leading the realization of MVPs in NTU, this role will enhance the pipeline of technologies transitioning from prototype to validation trials. Additionally, they will establish NTU's MVP Atelier, a central hub where NTU faculty, students and researchers can access the necessary resources for MVP development, verification, and validation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice, mentoring, and coaching on prototype and MVP conceptualization, development, verification, and validation.
  • Offer hands-on technical guidance in designing, building, integrating, and testing prototypes and MVPs to ensure they meet their intended objectives.
  • Lead pilot trials to validate the performance of MVPs.
  • Analyze technology and market trends to identify emerging customer needs and high-potential applications.
  • Drive the conceptualization, planning, and development of NTU's MVP Atelier at the Innovation Port.
  • Manage resources and funds to optimize prototyping and MVP efforts at NTU.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for prototype building and MVP services, connecting NTU's facilities and expertise for cross-field research, development, and testing.
  • Foster collaboration between NTU makers' labs and research labs/centers to enhance resource and expertise synergy.
  • Facilitate connections between NTU faculty/students/researchers and external design, prototyping, and engineering firms to support the development of new solutions and products.
  • Engage in ad-hoc initiatives and projects undertaken by the Office.

Requirements

Educational Qualifications

  • A Master's degree or higher in Engineering, Industrial Design, or the Sciences.

Relevant Experience

  • 5-10 years of demonstrated experience in technology/product design and development.
  • Proven track record in solving complex and ambiguous problems effectively.

Knowledge Required

  • Experience in project/product development/management.
  • Familiarity with lean start-up methodologies or entrepreneurship education is a bonus.
  • Understanding of business models, start-up financing, and primary market research for customer validation is advantageous.
