Established in 2010, the Energy Research Institute @ NTU(ERI@N) is a pan-university research institute that focuses onsystems-level research for tropical megacities. It performstranslational research that covers the energy value chain fromgeneration to innovative end-use solutions, motivated byindustrialisation and deployment.

The job is fora Programme Director (PD) to lead an ERI@N InterdisciplinaryResearch Programme focusing on Artificial Intelligence applied toEnergy Applications. This program will enable AI and digitalizationacross the energy domain and the selected Programme Director willhave to work with and support other ERI@N Programme Directors andlead the increased deployment of AI applications across the energydomain. This could include (but is not limited to) a wide range ofapplications including AI for future grid applications, predictivefailure detection of Energy Storage Systems, optimization of thefuture hydrogen economy, clean future mobility and smartbuildings.

KeyResponsibilities:

To assist theExecutive Director, in Scientific and Technical matters relating totheir individual areas of expertise, the Programme Director willsupport and / or lead the following activities:
  • Participate in or lead research anddevelopment, demonstration, and deployment of innovative energysolutions, that entail research in energy systems and alternativeenergy sources.
  • Identify strategic R&Dfocus and lead technical roadmap development and technologyassessments for various energydomains.
  • Recommend and support in developmentof strategic capabilities and core competence in targetedareas.
  • Facilitate and lead joint research anddevelopment agreements such as Joint Industry Program, ResearchCollaboration Agreements with Industry or University partners andrelated programs. Manage projects in the group and be the PrincipalInvestigator (PI) of key projects to ensure projects are executedto meet the scientific / technicaltargets.
  • Provide scientific / technicalleadership and mentorship to members of the research group,including relationship management with stakeholders (governmentagencies, key research partners, NTUManagement).
  • Advise the research team inpreparing grant proposals, intellectual property filings,presentations in meetings, scientific conferences; publishingresearch papers in journals / conference proceedings as defined inthe project scope andagreements.


JobRequirements:
  • Master's / PhDdegree in Engineering or Sciences or a relatedfield
  • At least 10 years with a strong researchtrack record in fields of relevance to ERI@N (ArtificialIntelligence as applied to power grids, renewables &integration, solar cells, hydrogen & fuel cells, energystorage, energy systems or other energy related applications) wouldbe essential.
  • Familiarity with both academicand industrial research as well as the funding landscape enablingthese research programmes is required.
  • Goodwritten and oral communication skills and the ability tocommunicate with a wide range of individual and professional groupsincluding senior level management in both industry as well asgovernment agencies is required.
  • Demonstratedleadership in RD&D in energy research as PI of successfulcompleted multi-year projects/programs; strong publications, orintellectual property track record isessential.
  • Able to work in and leadinterdisciplinary teams with a wide variety of competences and ahigh level ofdiversity.
