Research Associate (Carbon materials enhanced concrete) Established in 2010, the Energy Research Institute @ NTU ( ) is a pan‑university research institute that focuses on systems‑level research for tropical megacities. It performs translational research that covers the energy value chain from generation to innovative end‑use solutions, motivated by industrialisation and deployment. has multiple Interdisciplinary Research Programmes which focus on translational Research, Development & Deployment that focus on specific areas of the energy value chain, and a number of Living labs and Testbeds which facilitate large‑scale technology deployment enabling validation and demonstration of real‑world applications. We are looking for a Research Associate to work on carbon enhanced concrete materials. The role will focus on research and development of new materials related to the project. The applicant will conduct research on carbon‑material enhanced concretes with various forms of carbon. The developed materials must be demonstrated in suitable large‑scale applications. The candidate must graduate with a Master’s degree from a reputable university with relevant research experience/expertise and a strong journal publication record. Prior experience on similar research and a strong record of journal publication and/or IP generation will be favourably reviewed. The candidate should have relevant experimental skills such as nano and/or micro‑structural material tailoring, novel and sustainable concrete development, geopolymer or other green cement, mechanical testing, thermal and/or electrical conductivity testing, and material chemical and micro‑structural analysis. The candidate can have the opportunity to interact/collaborate with other colleagues within the PI’s group. Current topics in the group include self‑healing material, self‑sensing material, sustainable cementless material with regional waste/by‑products, 3D‑printable concrete material, and low‑carbon‑footprint concrete with carbon materials from different sources and their structural applications. Key Responsibilities Develop new carbon‑material enhanced concrete (e.g., incorporation of various carbon materials where they are securely stored but also enhance concrete properties in different ways). Test all relevant aspects of advanced concrete material developed. Conduct cost‑benefit and life‑cycle assessment of the material developed. Job Requirements Extensive knowledge of carbon‑material enhanced concrete/geopolymer material. Master’s degree in material science, civil, chemical engineering or related fields. Familiar with relevant analytical and experimental techniques; hands‑on experience and solid theoretical background; excellent paper/report writing skills.
