About the Lab

The Hwei-Ee Tan lab studies the biological basis of "gut-feelings" and how gut bacteria influence physiology and behavior. Using mice as models, the lab explores diet and microbiome effects on host phenotypes, including food reward and anxiety behaviors. The research combines molecular biology, systems neuroscience, physiology, and behavior, supported by grants from NRF Singapore and others. The lab is recruiting postdoctoral fellows, research assistants, interns, and sponsoring PhD/Master’s students. Responsibilities

The research assistant/associate will learn and assist with:

  • Molecular biology and histology procedures
  • Microscopy and rodent behavioral assays
  • Neuroscience techniques including optogenetics and chemogenetics
  • Functional recordings and calcium imaging
  • Mice surgery and data analysis
  • Lab maintenance and administrative tasks
Minimum Requirements
  • Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in Biology or relevant fields for Research Assistant; Master’s degree for Research Associate
  • Interest in microbiome, gut-brain, and neuroscience research
  • Proficiency in relevant lab techniques
  • Motivated, conscientious, able to work independently and in a team
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills
Additional Details

Position: Part-time, Internship level, in Higher Education. The role involves research, analysis, and IT functions.
