Job Title: Database Administrator (PostgreSQL/Sybase DBA – L2)

Job Overview We are looking for an experienced PostgreSQL/Sybase Database Administrator (L2) to join a regional IT team supporting enterprise-level database infrastructure. This position plays a key role in maintaining and optimizing critical database systems for both Asia and Europe-based operations, with a focus on operational stability, performance tuning, and continuous improvement.
The role supports database infrastructure primarily in EMEA and Asia regions, and will require working within European time zones (with shift scheduling in place).
Key Responsibilities Database Operations (PostgreSQL/Sybase)

• Install, configure, and upgrade PostgreSQL clusters and Sybase ASE/IQ instances.
• Architect secure and scalable HA/DR solutions using replication tools (e.g., Patroni, pgpool-II).
• Perform performance tuning, index optimization, and advanced query analysis.
• Manage database maintenance, backups, log management, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Collaborate with development, DevOps, and QA teams to support CI/CD pipelines and application releases.
• Implement security best practices, including encryption and access controls.
• Write automation scripts (e.g., Shell, Python) for routine DBA tasks.
• Support job scheduling and custom monitoring tools for both database environments.
  

L2 Support and Incident Management:

• Act as L2 escalation point for database incidents and service requests.
• Lead incident resolution, root cause analysis, and post-mortem documentation.
• Ensure changes and patches are well-managed and aligned with IT standards.
• Participate in DR drills, infra maintenance windows, and compliance-related tasks.
• Maintain accurate documentation, technical procedures, and knowledge base content.
  

Team Collaboration and Continuous Improvement:

• Coordinate with global teams across multiple time zones.
• Drive automation and process improvement initiatives.
• Share technical knowledge and mentor junior staff where applicable.
  

Work Schedule

• Support hours primarily aligned to EMEA (Paris) time zones.
• Shift schedules may include:
  • 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • 2:00 PM – 11:00 PM
  • 4:00 PM – 1:00 AM
  • On-call rotation may be required for critical incidents.
    
  Requirements Education And Experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 6 to 8 years of hands-on experience in PostgreSQL and/or Sybase DBA roles.
  • Experience supporting production environments in large enterprise or financial institutions.
    
  Technical Skills:
  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL and Sybase administration, upgrades, tuning, and automation.
  • Knowledge of replication technologies, monitoring tools, and backup/recovery strategies.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages: Shell, Python, T-SQL.
  • Exposure to database security policies, ITIL framework, and compliance procedures.
  • Understanding of cloud-based database technologies is an advantage.
    
  Certifications (Preferred):
  • PostgreSQL/Sybase DBA certification.
  • Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
    
  Soft Skills:
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proactive, collaborative team player with good time management skills.
  • Effective communicator with good documentation and reporting capabilities.
