Overview

The School of Humanities at Nanyang Technological University Singapore is seeking a Research Associate to support LanTERN (Language Evolution through Trees, Entropies, Reconstruction, and Networks), a project investigating the linguistic and cultural histories of East and Southeast Asia.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent research and participate in project events
  • Contribute to academic discussions and dissemination
  • Support data curation and tracking of project milestones
  • Assist with report preparation
  • Engage in both traditional and computational linguistic research as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team
Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in linguistics or a relevant field
  • Strong interest in linguistics research, particularly in language evolution and endangered languages
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for liaison with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency with data processing tools (Google Sheets, Excel) and office applications
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks, while also collaborating within a team
  • Basic knowledge of data management practices (e.g., organizing and securely storing research materials) is an advantage
  • Prior experience in data management or multilingual research is advantageous
  • Experience in linguistics or multilingual research is preferred, though not required
