Structural & Sales Engineer

1. Job Responsibilities

1) General

• Sales promotions and technical service of Nippon Steel's high-end products in construction and offshore markets as a chief manager in Singapore, Malaysia, and other ASEAN countries.
• Identify market needs and develop expansion strategies for Nippon Steel's high-end products in ASEAN by collaborating with the Marketing Team in Singapore, HQ, and local offices.
• Create Road-Map and Action Plans for yearly and mid-term periods (3-5 years).
• Manage and train staff in the office to enhance their technical skills and sales performance.

2) Technical Marketing and Establishment of Technical Conditions

• Research and monitor technical trends of steel structures in Singapore, Malaysia, and other ASEAN countries.
• Identify opportunities to promote Nippon Steel's high-end products/solutions based on current and future technical trends (e.g., Carbon Neutral initiatives).
• Develop and manage strategies to promote Nippon Steel's high-end materials/methods considering recent and future technical trends in the region.
• Plan and coordinate development and joint research with government organizations and universities to evaluate our products and solutions, including potential themes, structural testing, performance evaluation, and publication of documents.
• Engage in discussions and negotiations with government bodies, technical authorities, and universities regarding new technologies, products, and solutions.
• Deliver technical presentations and discussions at public academic organizations, and collaborate on technical journal publications with HQ and research labs in Japan.

3) Sales Promotions and Technical Services of High-End Structural Steel

• Penetrate new high-end products and solutions in Singapore, Malaysia, and other ASEAN markets.
• Identify potential projects and clients in the region.
• Provide technical proposals and support to potential clients such as consultants, main contractors, and fabricators, explaining design, application, and advantages.
• Collaborate with local partners on projects.

4. Job Duties

• Develop ideas and solutions to address marketing and technical issues in Singapore, Malaysia, and ASEAN countries; lead construction teams as a chief structural engineer.
• Identify potential projects through research.
• Develop relationships with potential clients via visits and meetings, explaining our high-end materials/methods and their advantages.
• Conduct periodic meetings, technical updates, and maintain good relationships with clients.
• Provide technical support for construction projects, including consulting for building and offshore construction.
• Create detailed technical documents and proposals.
• Make technical judgments on the suitability of Nippon Steel's materials and solutions for actual projects.
• Visit fabrication and construction sites to provide guidance and technical supervision.
• Plan and execute technical experiments, analyses, and field tests as the chief engineer.
• Collect technical data from construction sites, feedback to HQ and research centers in Japan.
• Lead periodic meetings with HQ, research centers, and ASEAN HQ, explaining regional activities and plans.
• Support and supervise subordinate structural engineers.
• Share information through reports and documents during meetings.

5. Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of experience in structural engineering.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of construction and structural engineering.
• Knowledge of design codes applicable in Singapore, Malaysia, ASEAN countries, and Japan.
• Disaster prevention engineering expertise, including seismic, wind, fire, and blast safety, with experience in developing solutions.
• Advanced skills in global analysis, member/connection design, FEA, fatigue, and corrosion design.
• Good understanding of steel manufacturing processes, performance, and fracture prevention.
• Experience with steel fabrication methods and performance of fabricated steel.
• Practical knowledge of construction site issues related to steel structures, providing technical solutions and judgments.
• Familiarity with the market situation in Singapore, Malaysia, and ASEAN countries, with existing connections.
• Ability to promote both technical and marketing/sales content.
• Japanese language skills (speaking and writing) are preferred for communication with Japanese colleagues.
• Focus on cost reduction, market pricing, and company profitability.
• Effective reporting and team communication skills.
• Ability to understand and adapt to the company culture.
• Excellent communication skills with clients and colleagues, including Japanese personnel.
