Head of Research Analytics / Senior Trading Analyst

Our client is a growing trading house with strong physical assets in the commodities sector. With an expanding global presence, they are committed to building a best-in-class analytics and research function to support their commercial growth.

About the Company

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Head of Research / Head of Analytics to join the team. The role will be instrumental in developing market insights, analytics frameworks, and risk assessments that directly support trading strategies. The primary focus will be on oil products, with particular emphasis on light ends , though broader exposure across energy markets will also be valuable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality market research and analysis on oil products, with a focus on gasoline, naphtha, and LPG.
  • Develop robust quantitative models, price forecasts, and supply-demand balances to support traders in commercial decision-making.
  • Provide forward-looking insights into market trends, macroeconomic drivers, refining economics, and trade flows.
  • Partner closely with traders, risk, and senior management to identify opportunities, manage exposures, and align research output with commercial objectives.
  • Oversee the creation and presentation of regular market reports, scenario analyses, and trading recommendations.
  • Ensure continuous enhancement of data sources, tools, and methodologies for analytics.
  • Act as a thought leader in driving innovation in research, combining quantitative analysis with fundamental insights.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Data Science, or related field.
  • 8 - 15 years of experience in a research, analytics, or strategy role within a commodities trading environment (ideally with exposure to oil products and light ends).
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills; proven ability to build models and conduct complex data-driven analysis.
  • Deep understanding of refining economics, trade flows, and market dynamics in oil products.
  • Experience in leading or mentoring analysts, with a track record of building high-performing teams.
  • Commercially minded, with strong communication skills and the ability to translate analytics into actionable insights.
