The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The School's primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical School. In August 2024, we welcomed our first intake of the NTU MBBS programme, that has been recently enhanced to include themes like precision medicine and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with an expanded scope in the medical humanities. Graduates from the five-year undergraduate medical degree programme will have a strong understanding of the scientific basis of medicine, with an emphasis on technology, data science and the humanities.
The Nutrition, Digestion, and Metabolism in A/Prof Sunny Wong's Lab focuses on understanding the interplay between diet, metabolism, microbiome, and disease, with a particular emphasis on colorectal cancer and metabolic disorders. The lab focuses on translational research, transforming fundamental research findings into tangible benefits for patients, Singapore, and the broader public.

We are looking for a Research Assistant/Associate to contribute to a translational research project aimed at improving symptom monitoring and management in patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS-D) through the development of a novel, AI-enabled wearable device. The role will focus on conducting clinical trials, collecting and analysing biomedical data, training machine learning models for bowel sound classification, and supporting prototype refinement and software integration for eventual commercialisation.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct clinical trial operations, including patient recruitment and data collection
Preparation of IRB applications, informed consent forms, and study protocol amendments in accordance with institutional and regulatory guidelines
Manage and preprocess biosignal data for analysis and AI model training
Collaborate with partners on prototype testing and development
Assist with mobile app testing and ensure reliable data flow between the device and cloud system
Required educational qualification, experience, skills and competencies:
Bachelor degree (for Assistant) or Master degree (for Associate) in Data Science, Computer Science, Biological Sciences or related field
At least 1-2 years of relevant experience in machine learning model development, preferably involving biomedical signals or clinical datasets
Experience with IRB submissions and clinical trial coordination is preferred
Proficiency in Python, R, or MATLAB for data analysis, and familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, GCP) will be an advantage
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
