Purpose:

Reporting to the APAC Consumer CIO, Chubb, the primary responsibility of the Head of Engineering, APAC consumer for Chubb is to drive technical delivery of consumer strategy and roadmap by cultivating engineering skills set across team in APAC, uplift the engineering practice and activities, and adopt new software engineering tools into Chubb in order to support the fast growing business and customer demand in consumer segment. 

APAC consumer consists of digital partnership, sales and distribution, telemarketing, Servicing and Claims solution. Concurrently, success will also be viewed in the ability to align Chubb solutioning to Chubb Group’s overall target operating models for reusability and scalability. In addition, as Chubb operates an extensive matrix reporting structure, strong influencing skills are critical in ensuring all technology related services and deliverables are executed within business expectations.

Responsibilities:

Overall 

Work closely with business and technology stakeholders to build alignment and deliver the technology strategy, roadmap and solutions for APAC consumer. Manage development of multiple solutions and systems, adhering to Chubb’s architectural standards and system development frameworks (agile and waterfall). Be hands-on and relentless on delivering high quality software to achieve the business outcomes. As a key member of the APAC Technology Leadership team, build, lead and motivate a diverse and dynamic Chubb engineering team. Be collaborative, drive a continuous learning mindset, lead change and educate the wider business in digital technologies and ways of working. Negotiate success, report engineering adoption and maturity progress, manage and resolve risks and issues.

Software Engineering

Bring maturity to Chubb IT from software engineering practices, tools and frameworks perspective to improve quality and reduce speed to markets Introduce design principles and tools & frameworks for full stack engineering to Chubb and bring the best practices from industry standards  Design and Develop flexible, adaptable, modular and reusable business solution designs in collaboration with product delivery and operation support teams  Support Discovery and Ideation phase across business demand in APAC Consumer and provide solution design, fit gap assessment of product selection and estimation of initiatives  Evaluate and recommend the use of cutting-edge technologies and methods, considering their pros & technical limitations  Closely work with the development team to support delivery and address technical challenges, lead in building the technology modernization, develops pipeline, automation and cloud migration Adopt Chubb global and engineer standards for Integration such as API design frameworks, service orchestration, rules management, service monitoring etc., over tools  Act as an enabler of Agile and DevOps practices in collaboration with product delivery and operation support teams Ensure data and security controls are well thought through during the software design process and adhere to the global standards of Chubb group 

Building Engineering Teams

Establish engineering teams in offshore delivery centers for front end, integration and back office systems.  Ensure right engineering skills are onboarded in countries and be in the evaluation panel for country level senior engineering hires  Onboard, train and build talent with deep engineering skills. Embrace new emerging technologies such as machine learning and AI and find opportunities to apply to the business use cases  Build teams in distributed locations to support the APAC Consumer Delivery 

Technical Collaboration

Communicate and collaborate with system owners to develop a technical direction and an overarching strategy to move a platform forward.  Business Partnership: Work closely with the Chubb Group Technology Office Leadership and Country-based IT leaders to ensure full alignment of technology to their business vision and positively engage key stakeholders to ensure technology is seen as an enabler of strategy.  Technical Quality: Review the solution designs being produced by the development teams. Ensure that designs adhere to the overall architectural blueprint by reviewing the technical documentation generated by the teams.  Total overall experience of 15+ years of engineering and delivery experience in building and leading software engineering teams and functions, preferable in financial services space  Hands-on, proven experience in software engineering, system architecture, solutioning and design, building, testing, and deploying changes in enterprise-scale systems  Proven experience in designing, building, and running systems in Cloud Have at least 3-5yrs of regional/global experience with responsibilities over multi-country software delivery
