We are a multidisciplinary team with specialists in mechanical design, computer science, electronics and robotics and more. This breadth of disciplines offers graduates the opportunity to explore and gain both exposure and experience across many facets of robotics which will help build a solid foundation of knowledge upon which to build their career.
About the role
As a Design Engineer within New Product Innovation (NPI) Robotics, you will be focussed on generating and developing concepts from inception through to working prototypes.
Key responsibilities include:
Identifying or understanding problems that our competitors haven’t solved Collaborating with the team to propose new concepts to solve problems Taking ownership of concepts and driving them through the stages of development Utilising Dyson’s world-class prototyping and test facilities for rapid realisation and testing of your concepts Development new Test Methods and analyse test data to demonstrate the performance of your concept Documenting, reporting and presenting your work to your peers and other stakeholders within the company Take an active, hands-on role to ensure that all engineering problems are resolved thoroughly.
About you
Our two-year Graduate Program that is targeted at individuals who have recently finished their studies and have obtained a Bachelors or Masters level degree in a relevant discipline such as:

Key skills and attributes you will bring to the role include:
Hands on Making – Show that you can quickly build prototypes from available materials to explore and demonstrate concepts. This can range from using cardboard models & mechanical mock-ups to producing refined visual mock-ups. You will ideally have experience with being in a workshop environment. Computer Aided Design – Proficient in NX or an equivalent parametric CAD program. Rapid Prototyping – Understanding of best practises for rapid prototyping techniques (e.g. FDM, SLA, SLS printing). Design Thinking – Understanding of design thinking practises and how they can be applied to Product Design & Engineering, with a strong focus on user-centred design. Mechanical Design – Sound understanding of basic mechanical engineering principles. Communication – Ability to communicate ideas through a variety of media including sketches Electronics – Ability to prototype simple electronic systems that interface with sensors, motors, microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino, Teensy, ESP32). Adaptability – Ability to adapt and find creative solutions to challenges.
