About our client
Did you know that we cannot facilitate the energy transition without batteries? 95% of all spent Lithium-Ion batteries are not currently able to be re-used: until our client built the worlds first technology to re-manufacture spent (used) battery material at commercial scale.
This is why they are becoming a big deal; a bigger deal however is the impact we are making for their planet.
Role
As a Battery Material Specialist, you will be responsible for leading the development, optimisation, and characterization of materials for batteries, with a focus on cathode materials. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and ensure the successful implementation of new materials into our products. Having a strong background in materials science, electrochemistry, and practical experience in battery material development is a plus
Responsibilities
- Research, develop, and optimize battery materials, particularly cathode materials, for various applications, focusing on performance, stability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Design and execute experiments to evaluate material properties, electrochemical performance, and degradation mechanisms.
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify material requirements and specifications for product development.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in battery material technology and contribute to the development of intellectual property.
- Analyze data, interpret results, and present findings to stakeholders through reports, presentations, and technical discussions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance material synthesis processes, characterization techniques, and performance metrics.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior team members, fostering a culture of learning and innovation.
Requirements
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in battery material development, with a focus on cathode materials.
- Experience with computational modelling and simulation of battery materials is preferred.
- Knowledge of scale-up processes for transitioning materials from lab-scale to pilot-scale production.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards for battery materials.
- Proficiency in materials characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and electrochemical analysis (CV, EIS, etc.).
- Strong understanding of electrochemistry principles, including ion insertion/extraction mechanisms, redox reactions, and battery performance metrics.
- Hands-on experience with material synthesis, formulation, and processing techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Open to relocate to Melbourne.
