OMS Internship Programme

1) Market Operations Asset Servicing

Brief Overview:

The Asset Servicing team within Market Operations provides value-added services to market such as corporate action servicing and asset custody to key financial market participants.

Learning Objectives:

Comprehensive knowledge on the capital markets ecosystem Securities and derivatives market, rules and processes under the guidance of the most experienced and passionate derivatives clearing house mentors Systems and technologies for market management and risk management (e.g. SWIFT, Pricing system, Corporate Action system) Securities products knowledge (e.g. Stocks, Corporate action events, data platform building etc) Asset servicing exotic corporate action, custody processes, systems, rules and concepts (e.g. rights issue, stock split, script dividends etc) Data management processes, systems, rules and concepts (e.g. data structure, data governance)

Job Description:

SGX is seeking an intern to join its Asset Servicing team within Market Operations to provide depository and corporate action services to global investors seeking trusted exposure to Asias compelling growth engines across a complex continental geography. Process innovation and digitalization are at the core focus for the team coming into 2021 to transform legacy workflows, reduce exception handling and manual processes. The intern will get to learn through individualized mentorship and practical experience to develop the securities and derivatives market infrastructure by:

performing day-to-day corporate action and custody processes with speed and accuracy improving daily operations processes through process streamlining and system development collaborating with supervisors and managers on projects and initiatives

Knowledge and Skills requirements:

An eye for details Self-motivated and goal-oriented Can-do spirit Fast learner Ability to deal with ambiguity Ability to communicate complex concepts Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities Good inter-personal and effective relationship management skills Strong proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel Knowledge of data analytic tools such as Tableau, Alteryx and RPA (Robotic Process Automation) is an advantage

2) Market Operations Clearing and Collaterals

Brief Overview:

Clearing and Collateral is responsible for the clearing and settlement operations of Singapore Exchange Derivatives and Securities Clearing House:

Product development: bring the Derivatives and Securities products from concepts to life Market management: monitor and manage the Derivatives and Securities market by leveraging on technology and tools Risk management: manage counterparty risk through daily cycle mark-to-market, margining and collateral management

Learning Objectives:
Selected intern would undergo a structured internship program with the following exposure: 
1) Technical Development (70%)

Singapores Derivatives and Securities market, rules and processes under the guidance of experienced and passionate mentors. Tools and technologies for market management (e.g. CW2, Titian OTC, SWIFT, SGX PTS system) Derivatives and Securities business products knowledge (e.g. NLT(negotiated large trades) of listed Derivatives (e.g. commodities, foreign exchange products), Stocks and Exchange Traded Fund (ETF)) Derivatives and Securities clearing processes, systems, rules and concepts (e.g. Daily Settlement Cycle, Margin calls, Money Settlement run and Buying-in)

2) Professional Development (20%)

SGX training Stakeholder management Presentation Process improvement initiative that improves the efficiency and/or in risk controls

3) Cross Function Development (10%)

Cross function learning Strategize offline event planning and execution

Job Description:

Develop Singapore derivatives and securities market infrastructure by:

Ensuring smooth market operations Enhancing market management decision making process through in-house data analytics and dashboard Automating daily operations processes through VBA, R/ Python script Enhance learning opportunity (e.g., rotation within C&C team)

3) Market Services

Brief Overview:

The KYC team conducts:

KYC/AML screening and performing due diligence for CDP customers, market participants, business participants of the business units. Periodic review of existing customers Escalation to Compliance and provide recommendations on exception cases

Learning Objectives:
The selected intern would learn to perform the KYC/AML screening using the prescribed systems, performing customer due diligence and have a better appreciation of the relevant AML / Combat the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) / Sanction regulations and laws.

Job Description:

Review screening alerts in line with AML policy of SGX group. Escalate concerns relating to screening alerts in line with KYC procedure. Conduct customer due diligence, review KYC documents, complete risk assessment and escalation of case to compliance as appropriate. Review KYC information & documents of clients in accordance to the SGX groups AML/KYC standards. Manage client responses to KYC requirements and resolve customer queries related to documentation. Coordinate and liaise with relevant stakeholders for timely completion of KYC renewals. Ensure any quality assurance and corrective feedback from the approver/Head of KYC / Compliance is actioned in a timely manner. Effectively manage CDD reviews of cases to ensure no cases are overdue.

Knowledge and Skills requirements:

Have good interpersonal and communication skills. Be proficient with Microsoft Office Application especially Excel. Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Be a strong team player with the ability to work independently. Good eye to detail, public data research (example: Google) skills.
