**Job Description**:
1) Responsible for managing the research projects granted to NUS Medicine BSL-3 Core Facility and providing quality services to the NUS Medicine BSL-3 Core Facility users and to the external customers and stakeholders.
- Manage the research projects in the BSL-3 facility efficiently to ensure that the BSL-3 facility has achieved the Department KPIs and delivered the results in a timely manner.
- Support the BSL-3 facility to ensure all operations and laboratory activities are following regulatory guidelines, NUS policies, NUS Medicine BSL-3 manual and all relevant standard operating procedures.
- Provide timely services including consultation and training of laboratory users to work safely and effectively within NUS Medicine BSL-3 Core Facility under a proper biohazard and biosecurity control.
- Liaise with BSL-3 facility users (internal & external) and the operation team with regards to facility’s services (including collaborative research projects) and ensure service quality.
2) Assist the BSL-3 Operation Team for managing biorisk management system, day-to-day operation of BSL-3, and supporting BSL-3 research and protocol specific trainings.
- Work closely with the BSL-3 core facility team and support the Operation Team in Safety Training, monitoring of BSL-3 users safety performance, other department-level administration & projects including the national & regional biorisk management education and training etc.
- Be part of the BSL-3 Emergency Response Team (ERT) and assist the BSL-3 ERT team leader in responding appropriately to laboratory safety and security emergencies.
- Assist the BSL-3 Operation team in developing and conducting research protocol-specific training for BSL-3 users and other CET training organised by BSL-3 Core Facility.3) Responsible for managing and ensuring that all laboratory equipment within the NUS Medicine BSL-3 facility is maintained and to be used safely by the researchers and to provide training.
- Contribute to the development of new SOPs and reviewing of equipment SOPs to ensure that the equipment available in the BSL-3 facility is properly maintained and used. Provide timely training and service to BSL-3 users and collaborators to successfully complete the experiment safely using these equipment in efficient and safe way.
- Support the BSL-3 facility operation team for maintaining laboratory equipment and to support the re-certification of facility by Ministry of Health.
- Manage procurement of lab equipment and consumables needed for BSL-3 Science Service Support as necessary.
4) Responsible for supervising and managing the laboratory activities involving the use of BSL-3 Core Facility’s various equipment
- Monitor and supervise laboratory users and trainees and ensure that they follow all relevant safety standards & guidelines SOPs and experimental protocol to provide quality of services. Timely training and servicing of staff or users to complete the experiments successfully and safely.
- Mentor and supervise the research staff reporting to this position, supervise them, guide them in their training and career development, manage their performance appraisal and ensure that they have achieved their research KPI.
5) Responsible for managing the Biosafety Professional Biorisk Management Training Programme of NUS Medicine BSL-3 facility for Biorisk, to create training strategies, materials, conduct training, and marketing.
- Act as the main contact point of the training program to communicate and coordinate with trainers and relevant teams, develop and update training and instructional materials, market the training program to interested parties and ensure that the trainees’ successful completion of certification at the end of training.Qualifications
- PhD in Biomedical Sciences/Microbiology/Virology
- At least two (2) years of experience in Biorisk (biosafety & biosecurity) administration such as developing and reviewing protocols or standard operating procedures.
- At least two (2) years of supervisory experience to train and guide junior staff, users, or postgrad students to work in the BSL-3 laboratory.
- At least two (2) years of experience in teaching as a classroom trainer/teacher, training facilitator, or similar role to manage and design biorisk training program. Experienced with e-learning platforms will be an advantage.
- Willing to work in a laboratory environment that handles a small number of Radioactive Isotopes, small animal models and highly Infections Biological Agents.
- Good organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments and to establish effective working relationships with BSL-3 facility staff, researchers, and other clients.
