Research Assistant in the Laboratory of Associate Professor Joanne Ngeow
- Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, a partnership between Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) and Imperial College London (Imperial) is training doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The Laboratory of Genomic Medicine (CSB building) led by Assoc. Prof. Joanne Ngeow is focusing on hereditary cancer syndromes and translational clinical cancer genetics, help to understand how gene-environmental interactions prediposdes to cancer initial and progression. The lab is in close collaboration with National Cancer Centre Singapore(NCCS), developing human cell lines model to study disease-causing mutations.
- Job Responsibilities:
- Assist purchasing of equipment, materials and consumables and provide general supports for the lab.-
- Support research ethics, lab safety related administration and ad-hoc duties.-
- Reagent/Buffer preparation and routine laboratory housekeeping including keeping an inventory record of materials.-
- Perform cell-based assays/experiments and carry out an independent research project (eg. Planning, implementing, analyzing and documenting experiments)-
- Mentor undergraduate student and willing to train students/new lab members.- Perform ad-hoc duties as assigned by superior and able to work in different lab environment across institutions.
- Skills and qualifications:
- Degree in life sciences or equivalent in any relevant field of molecular biology-
- Molecular biology techniques: DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qRT-PCR, molecular cloning, protein work (eg. Western blotting)-
- Cell culture techniques: Maintain cell lines with aseptic laboratory practices-
- Prior experience of immunofluorescence staining, confocal microscopy or flow cytometry would be of benefit but not essential-
- Superior problem solving and troubleshooting skills for experimental workflow-
- Able to work independently, multi-task, work collaboratively in a cross-disciplinary research environment and be open to last-minute changes and variations-
- Able to function effectively with other colleagues/lab members in the work environment.-
- Demonstrates persistence to overcome challenges, to learn and improve continuously.Hiring Institution: LKC
