About the role
We are seeking a Senior Underwriter to support our expanding and growing Everest’s Asia Property and APAC Political Violence & Terrorism Portfolios. With a focus on risk management whilst driving business growth and achieving profit objectives in line with company plans, you will play a key role in driving the achievement of our objectives for profitability, growth, service excellence, and producer relations.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Accountable for the strategic direction, oversight and performance of APAC’s Political Violence & Terrorism Portfolio in conjunction with the Head of Political Violence & Terrorism in London and Head of Property in Singapore. Responsible for successful execution of the Political Violence & Terrorism plan; adjusting strategies and actions to meet the needs of a changing marketplace; effectively preserve and enhance growth and profitability through product development and enhancement; competitive analysis and the development of business-enhancing performance metrics and controls; budgeting and finance reporting as required.
- Expanding and growing both Property and Political Violence & Terrorism Portfolios whilst maintaining a focus on bottom line underwriting for profit and new business production and opportunities in line with agreed business plan
- Actively participate in the development & execution of the marketing plan, broker & customer relationships, in a manner consistent with the objectives of the business plan whilst providing high levels of service and consistency to our brokers and clients.
- Underwrite in compliance with Everest prescribed underwriting standards and refer as appropriate risks exceeding prescribed underwriting authority.
- Monitor and keep abreast of changes in underwriting, regulation and compliance.
- Maintain an in depth understanding of the live portfolio exposures and exposure management in place.
- Ensure all processing, Cat models, rating models and management reporting is managed to a high standard
- Represent Everest at internal and external meetings with brokers, clients and other customers / stakeholders as required
- Participate in the underwriting peer review process as required and ensuring compliance with all internal and external management and regulatory controls
- Liaise with Claims Manager on claims related issues and participate in account and portfolio reviews.
- Business travel as required to support the above objectives, and the appropriate management of T&E expenses.
- To help develop and train junior staff as may be appropriate
- Ad-hoc duties will be assigned, as appropriate
Qualifications, Skills & Competencies
- Bachelor’s Degree, or comparable Business Degree with a minimum of 10+ years’ professional experience in Property or Political Violence & Terrorism underwriting
- Demonstrated underwriting ability to generate profitable new business and proven record of delivering meaningful premium growth and underwriting profit.
- Strong technical background, problem solving analytical skills, and ability to connect data analytics with strategic deliverables to drive underwriting strategy.
- Working experience across Asia in wholesale or retail markets.
- Ability to stay organized in a fast paced and high intensity work environment with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks
- Willing to take initiative, function independently and be entrepreneurial with the highest standards of ethics and professionalism

- Highly collaborative and able to work effectively with peers.
- Strong interpersonal skills as well as strong verbal and written communication
