Overview*
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a universally recognised public health crisis. Highly-resistant bacterial infections increase morbidity and mortality given limited treatment options. Current understanding of multidrug-resistant infection epidemiology is largely based on ad-hoc observational studies and microbiology data with no linkage to clinical outcome. There are no effective treatments for highly resistant infections, which are prevalent amongst critically ill and elderly patients.
We are conducting an international multi-centre patient-centred surveillance database for AMR (ACORN-HAI), which forms groundwork for subsequent innovative randomised controlled trials targeting multidrug resistant infections including capacity building of microbiology laboratories, data collection and data sharing platforms. Innovative randomized clinical trials are necessary to test out new therapeutics, infection prevention strategies, and diagnostics. Innovations are needed to maximise trial efficiency, improve patient enrolment and maintain high data quality.
ADVANCE-ID network is based at National University of Singapore, with a close partnership with National University Hospital. It is a large network with other 60 hospitals globally, with the capacity to be a regional and international coordinating center for large randomized trials.
Job Responsibilities*
- Analyse data, write-up and publish findings in high-impact journals;
- Work on in-silico simulations, mathematical modelling and grant writing.
- Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with policies and procedures;
- Assist with other research-related duties as delegated by the PI
The Requirements
- Masters or Ph.D in Epidemiology and biomedical science or related discipline
- Basic programming skills, Bayesian statistics, in-silico simulations
- Basic understanding of clinical trials and antimicrobial resistance
- Be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature, attention to detail
