General Summary The role holder will work in partnership with the People & Culture (P&C) team to lead on all strategic employment legal issues across all of WBD’s businesses in APAC (including Productions although you will be required to work with other Employment Legal Team members and P&C on Production Employment issues) and develop a strong working relationship; developing legally compliant, fit for purpose processes covering all the relevant APAC territories, as well as being responsible for providing day-to-day advice and expertise to the P&C team on the full range of ER issues including immigration to minimize the financial and reputational risk to WBD. Key Features - Driving the development of employment law strategy across APAC, ensuring it is aligned with the overall aims of the company - Developing relationships with external counsel ensuring you are the lead for advice across APAC, creating governance around when to instruct external advisors with a view to minimizing external legal costs - Manage internal relationships across a matrix structure: Legal, business, P&C - Managing any employment immigration issues, with support from external counsel where needed. - Create governance and control around settlement agreements - Analyzing and take proactive action on recurring ER themes and litigation in APAC across WBD to develop and implement effective solutions and sharing the learning - Provide ongoing day-to-day advice and guidance to P&C on the full range of initiatives with legal implications. - In partnership with P&C; design, implement and review employment policies in APAC to ensure they are complaint with WBD’s global aims, fit for purpose, competitive and legally compliant locally in APAC. - Proactively network with employment law professionals externally across APAC. Take up opportunities to attend network groups, seminars etc. and sharing the learning - The role will require overseas travel as necessary - To provide back up support to other members of the International Employment legal department as and when required (capacity permitting) Capability **Skills**: - Technically very proficient lawyer - needs to have experience excellent understanding of employment law in APAC and excellent drafting skills. Must be a qualified lawyer in Singapore (or comparable APAC jurisdiction) - excellent academics; - Negotiation skills must be excellent - Excellent interpersonal skills - ability to work effectively at all levels within the company: - Clear and concise communicator (both orally and written) - ability to present and distil legally complex issues into legally compliant but practical and commercial solutions, in a way that engages the key stakeholders - Well organized and attention to detail: this role requires focus and energy to ensure that nothing falls between the cracks Knowledge - A minimum of 8 years’ first hand experience of at least 2 APAC territories in employment law. In-house experience would be an advantage.
