The Technical Services Operations Engineer is part of a group of gTLD technical experts in ICANN org, responsible for executing operational processes, managing technical systems related to gTLD registries and registrars, and providing technical advice and expertise to other departments in ICANN org.

**Key Responsibilities & Duties**:

- Resolve tickets and cases within service level requirements.
- Communicate verbally and in writing with ICANN org’s contracted parties worldwide (gTLD registries and registrars) when working on tickets and cases.
- Track and report on service metrics on an ad hoc basis.
- Provide systems engineering and technical expertise to address operational issues impacting gTLD (generic Top-Level Domain) registries and registrars.
- Participate in 24x7 on-call weekly shifts. If an emergency impacts the availability of gTLDs’ critical services during the scheduled shift, the participant is expected to be reachable via mobile phone to provide troubleshooting and escalation activities.
- Execute automated and manual tests using command-line tools to ensure technical requirements have been met.
- Troubleshoot Internet services and systems using common Unix network tools.
- Evaluate new gTLD registry service proposals from the technical, security and stability perspective.
- Write detailed documents to report tests results, document processes, etc.
- Develop, implement, and update processes to streamline operational activities.
- Other duties as assigned or requested.

**Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)**:

- Excellent skills as power user/system administrator of Unix systems.
- Unix shell programming.
- Network troubleshooting tools (e.g., dig, ping, traceroute, nmap, netcat, mtr, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability in at least one high-level programming language (e.g., Perl, Python, Java).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Very good English-writing skills particularly regarding technical documents.
- Service-oriented communication skills.
- Experience with XML and JSON desired.
- Network routing (BGP) knowledge desired.
- DNS knowledge desired.
- Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.

**Education and Experience Requirements**:

- Minimum of 8 years of experience with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Unix system power user.
- Desired work experience in technical capacity with a Top-Level Domain (TLD) registry or domain name registrar.
