Asia Cluster Medical Director

ROLE SUMMARY
The Asia Cluster Medical Director (Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam) will serve as the Chief Medical Officer for the region, providing medical leadership to the region & responsible for developing and executing the Regional Medical Team’s vision and strategy in alignment with the Regional President.
- The Asia Cluster Medical Director is the single point of accountability for medical in the region - across all the markets & works closely with the Emerging Asia to support the product portfolio. The Regional Categorical leads will work closely with the Regional Medical Lead to ensure strong strategic alignment with local & regional strategies & focus.
- Will be responsible for managing high performing Country Medical organizations & will ensure that country medical functions systems, processes & activities are fully aligned with local, regional and EM business priorities, strategies and needs, as well as, in compliance with corporate policies & guidelines.
- He/she also serves as the key regional liaison for the country medical departments, with country/regional/HQ Commercial, Medical, GMPE, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory, Safety, Corporate Affairs and, Legal functions.
- Provides medical guidance and input to the regulatory, safety and commercial leadership teams in support of key product maintenance & defense activities.
- He/She is an integral member of the EM Medical Affairs Leadership Team & reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer, Emerging Markets. In partnership with other members of the LT, He/she will develop strategic partnerships with key clinical and other stakeholders; developing strategies aligned to customer needs in order to maintain a therapeutic leadership position and drive business needs at regional and country level. The lead will also focus on ensuring excellence with respect to medical quality and compliance as well as professional external relations.
More than 10 years in the medical affairs function in the pharmaceutical industry with broad expertise in medical & strong experience with regulatory and/or safety risk management issues.
- Past Experience of working as a Medical Director & line management experience in a large country organization preferred
- Comprehensive understanding of the regional/ international health environment & Profound knowledge of the relevant and applicable regional/international Codes of Practice, SOPs, regulations and guidelines
- Knowledge of pharmacovigilance & regulatory legislation and how it impacts product portfolio
- Proactive, pragmatic, flexible person with excellent leadership qualities, strategic thinking, communication & presentation skills
- Fluency in English; desirable to have fluency in another local language.
- Ability to work successfully with cross-functional staff in a team setting
- Analytic and organizational skills in managing, interpreting, and presenting clinical and marketing data, for regional assessment
- Ability to communicate, develop, and manage collaborative relationships with external academic institutions, co-operative groups, and medical professionals
- Pharmaceuticals experience working in other regions, and, knowledge of regulatory requirements a plus
- MD is a requirement; other advanced clinical degree a plus
- Ability to travel extensively through the region is a requirement.
