We are looking for a motivated individual for the high-performance actuation section of the group. You will be in-charge of the development of next generation permanent magnet electric machines and electromagnetic actuators. In this role, you will be expected to take charge of performing the electromagnetic and electro-mechanical analysis of various motor design concept based on first principle models with the aid of software tools. This would be necessary to provide the project team with clear guidelines on the machine design, topology, geometries and material selection to achieve the desired performance characteristics. The ability to model and analyze the motor dynamics under the various operating conditions would also be a necessary part of the motor development. Also, working knowledge of the various motor drive systems and the right selection to match the motor under development would be required in order to achieve the proper controls of the motor. You are also expected to source for suitable suppliers and contractors to provide the necessary materials and services to complete the prototyping work, as well as lead engagements and projects with industrial partners.

**The main responsibilities include the following**:

- Lead engagement and project scoping with industrial partners
- The design and development of next generation electric motors and motor drive systems
- Electromagnetic and thermal analysis of the motor under development
- Modelling and simulating the electro-mechanical characteristics of motor under development
- Application of data driven modelling, optimization, and machine learning techniques to the design methodology of electric machines
- CAD design and fabrication of prototype
- Testing and verification of prototype performance against design specifications
- Integration of the motor under development with suitable drive electronics and power converters
- Implementation of motor controls e.g. Field Oriented Control

**Job Requirements**:

- Ph. D./Master's degree in Electrical/ Mechanical/ Mechatronics Engineering, preferably with specialization in Control Engineering
- With 5 years of work experience or similar
- Knowledge and experience with electric machine principle and design
- Strong knowledge in design and implementation of BLDC and/or PMSM motors is preferred
- Knowledgeable and up to date with state-of-the-art knowledge in motor and motor drive systems
- Strong experience with numerical simulation software tools e.g. Ansys maxwell, Comsol Multiphysics, JMAG
- Familiar with assembly and manufacturing of motor components
- Good knowledge of commercially available integrated motor drive solutions
- Hands-on experience in implementing Motor Drive Systems
- Experienced with AC and DC drive electronics and control of motors
- Experience working with industry leading motor manufacturers is a plus
