**THE ROLE**
- Senior Consultants oversee tasks and workflow, manage junior staff/teams, and handle full proposal development for new business.
- They maintain an awareness of macro business issues impacting clients by conducting and analyzing research on various client-related issues.
- The Senior Consultant independently coordinates client meetings and events. They complete client deliverables under the supervision of a more senior team member or an assigned account manager.
- Senior Consultants are expected to demonstrate an understanding of APCO’s business practices and processes, as well as strong tactical and strategic abilities.The Senior Consultant interfaces with all levels of staff and maintains regular contact with staff in the client’s organization regarding project or client-related issues.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Prepare and lead customized credential packages for prospective clients, highlighting APCO capabilities, relevant case studies, and high-level industry notes and observations (requiring little to no revisions by managers).
- Approve complete proposals for client work showing strategic thought, scope or work and pricing. Works with an understanding of APCO’s tools, business model, and structure.
- Identify ways to expand client engagement and take initiative with appropriate contacts to pursue expansion of work.
- Participate actively in internal and client meetings, sometimes leading them, offering knowledgeable observations and suggestions; maintain awareness of “air time” and foster participation of other colleagues.
- Leads media relations efforts, including cultivating relationships with media, drafting strategies, organizing press conferences, and more.
- Integrates digital and social media tactics with overall communications strategy and construct traditional and digital measurement deliverables upon request.
- Familiarity with a variety of social media tools and the metrics that drive success within those tools.
- Lead effective brainstorming sessions.
- Demonstrates confidence and projects the presence of a consultant in client engagements (on phone, in person, with prospects).
- Prepare comprehensive reports and deliverables required in the specific functional capacity (e.g., perception audits, market studies, provincial reports, etc.) with mínimal guidance and review by managers.
- Proactively identify external meetings and trainings to attend to build sector knowledge and contacts.
- Meets or exceeds assigned utilization targets.Manages on a macro level and oversees the work of more junior colleagues, providing feedback and ensuring the quality of work.
**QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS**
- Ideally, a minimum of 7 to 9 years of relevant experience in a consulting firm, corporation, diplomatic posting or media role.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Be able to managing portions of large client projects or independently managing small client projects. Be able to prepare client-ready materials (e.g., summary reports, press releases, credentials, proposals) and review/improve the work product of junior team members.
- Has strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and messages.
- Has excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and internal teams.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience mentoring and coaching junior team members.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with communication tools, media databases and social media networks.
