Engineering Lead

Wise has always been focused on moving money between as many currencies and countries as possible. Our Regional Expansion tribe works toward this goal by building new routes, and improving our existing ones, making them cheaper, faster, and more robust. Regional Platform is responsible for building a foundation for other teams to succeed by providing scalable and reliable frameworks and services for internal use.
As an Engineering Lead you’ll be heavily involved in the development life-cycle of the solutions provided to the region teams, from design to coding and testing. Communication and people management plays a big role in this position, too. This means coaching your team, helping them overcome blockers in their work and ensuring a healthy culture for your teams.
**Requirements**:
- Hands-on developer experience at Senior level
- Extensive fin-tech industry experience
- Good architectural vision and distributed systems design experience - ability to see the big picture and create the right level of abstractions
- Prior experience with event-driven distributed systems
- Experience building and designing scalable and performing systems (preferably within the Java ecosystem)
- Good people and communication skills
- Planning and prioritization skills - focus on what matters
- Stakeholder management skills - ability to discuss difficult technical topics with non-technical stakeholders
- Taking ownership and owning the outcome
