**Epigram Books **is a Singaporean independent publisher of well-designed and thought-provoking titles. It began as a division of the multiple award-winning communications design firm Epigram but was registered as a separate entity in 2011 to champion Singaporean literature. The company currently publishes fiction and non-fiction books. It is best known for publishing award-winning titles such as the Eisner Award-winning graphic novel _The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye; _the middle-grade series _The Diary of Amos Lee, _which has sold more than 240,000 copies worldwide; and _Ministry of Moral Panic _, the debut short story collection by Amanda Lee Koe, which won the Singapore Literature Prize for English Fiction. Epigram Books also reflects Singapore’s obsession with food by publishing recipe books and food guides.

**Job Purpose
Epigram Books is seeking an **Assistant Editor **to oversee its **Middle Grade and Young Adult **titles **. **Reporting to and working closely with the Managing Editor, the Assistant Editor will be instrumental in acquiring, developing and editing an exciting list of books for children and young adults.

**Responsibilities
- Oversee 8 to 10 Middle Grade and Young Adult titles throughout the editing, design and production phases
- Establish and maintain relationships with authors
- Ensure that the publication process for all Middle Grade and Young Adult works, from manuscript to published work, meets the highest standards of quality and accuracy, staying within budget and deadline
- Handle all editorial responsibilities, including developmental editing, copy editing, proofreading and copywriting for Middle Grade and Young Adult titles across digital and print formats
- Acquire, assess and select fiction manuscripts for potential publication Copywrite and check content for sales, marketing and catalogues, maintaining awareness of market trends and competitors

**Experience Required
- A relevant undergraduate degree
- At least **two years **of experience in an editorial role, preferably in children’s literature Knowledge about the publishing industry (advantageous)

**Skills and Personal Attributes
- Good editing, copy editing and proofreading abilities.
- Excellent communication skills and strong written skills
- Keen attention to detail and a good visual sense
- Excellent organisational skills, with the capacity to balance and manage a varied workload
- Comprehensive understanding of budgeting and cost control for publishing projects
- Highly motivated, proactive and able to work independently Collaborative team player with the initiative to project lead
