Laboratory Manager

Main Duties: To include, but not to restricted to, the following:

- Responsible in formulating and implementing the short and long-range goals for the operation of the laboratories; set priorities, assign responsibilities, and establish timetables. Project future needs and formulate strategies consistent with projections.
- Administer and coordinate the technical activities, educational programs, and infrastructure related to the operation of the laboratories.
- Develop and implement Laboratory(s) policies and procedures. Manage and coordinate operational policies and procedures; coordinate with staff on issues which impact laboratory services.
- Evaluate and recommend new techniques and technologies. Install and maintain laboratory equipment in compliance with local MOH regulations and ISO, CLIA and/or CAP accreditation standards.
- Maintain quality checks on safety of laboratories, including biohazards and insure maintenance of the facilities according to Good Laboratory Practices.
- Plan schedule work for the group to ensure proper distribution of assignments as well as adequate manning, space, and facilities for subsequent performance of duties. Manages and coordinates the activities of a project(s) with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods, and employees; coordinate and supervise the performance of routine and specialized technical procedures in multiple laboratories.
- Prepare technical reports reflecting volume of work, procedures utilized and test results; coordinate the preparation of reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
- Plan and conduct meetings with subordinates to ensure compliance with established practices, to implement new policies and to keep employees abreast of current changes and standards.
- Represent the department/laboratory in interactions with other internal and external departments.
- Assure that the laboratory technicians are properly trained in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and equipment specific requirements, assure the GAH laboratory notebook keeping guidelines are strictly maintained.
- Assist in the determination of fiscal requirements and in the preparation of budgetary recommendations. Compile and prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Recommend and coordinate purchases of major capital equipment.

**Requirements**:

- Education: Master level degree in a scientific discipline or in the biochemistry, molecular biology, and related medical sciences disciplines.
- Experience: NGS experience in an academic setting and also in a genetic clinical laboratory in the hospital or commercial setting.
- Must have previous experience managing a diagnostic lab, including but not limited to MOH and CAP processes.
- Experience in leading scientists and technicians in commercial or genetic labs. includes a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory/managerial role or experience.
- Track record to be able to resolve challenges and difficulties with creative and rigorous scientific manner with high ethical standards. Able to finish projects to customer requirement in a quality and timely manner.
- Knowledgeable of academic and clinical settings and a proven track record of successfully working in such settings.
- Can articulate for discussion with team player lead by relating to people at all levels of the organization and who possesses excellent communication skills.
- An effective educator who is willing to share information and serve as a mentor.
- An excellent negotiator who is experienced in contract development and management.
- Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints.
- Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations externally on controversial or complex topics to the stakeholders.
