Job Description

We are looking for a Legal Counsel to join our Legal team in the Global Forwarding division. You will be responsible for providing legal support and advice across the 25 markets in which Global Forwarding operates, as well as in other jurisdictions as required. This position will work with Lead Counsel to ensure the focus areas and activities of the business unit are holistically carried out in line with Toll Group ‘One Toll’ strategy and Toll values which focus around Customer, Teamwork, Progress, Integrity & Accountability.

**The role**

As a Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for:

- Autonomously drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts in line with Toll’s preferred positions. Resolving claims and disputes with customers, vendors, agents and other third parties. Also providing jurisdictional specific and general legal advice and regulatory governance
- (With Lead Counsel) overseeing management and progress of all GF litigation, including managing external counsel, recommending strategy for resolution and preparing regular reports for Chief Legal Officer
- Providing regular training to the business on a variety of topics, including effective claims management, ways of working with Legal, contract negotiation
- Ensuring corporate governance rules and processes are maintained and enforced
- Working closely with the business in understanding the service industry & commercial requirements when considering legal issues. Working closely with the other corporate functions on a daily basis or to contribute to wider projects basis
- Taking the initiative to identify work processes and provide recommendation so to improve efficiency and productivity. Supporting workload of other lawyers within the Global Forwarding legal team

Qualifications
**About you**

To be successful in this role, you will need:

- Degree in Law. Commerce, finance or post graduate regionally relevant legal qualifications will be an advantage
- Preferably, a Legal practitioner certificate in Singapore or home jurisdiction
- Fluency in English. Business level Mandarin required
- Extensive experience in commercial agreements including drafting, negotiating and settling contracts. Experience and/or expertise in carriage of goods, international transportation (ocean, air, rail, road), warehousing and logistics, servicing major corporate customers would be considered very valuable
- Multi-national corporation and public listed company experience. Extensive experience in leading face-to-face negotiations in relation to complex transactions.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tight deadlines. Strong negotiation and influencing skills
