Construction Lead, Se Asia, Data Center Capacity

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or equivalent work history with experience in construction project management.
- 15+ years of construction management experience running construction projects.
- 5+ years of experience directly managing, mentoring, leading, and coaching construction management, engineering design, procurement, controls, and commissioning professionals.
- Fluent in Japanese and English
- Experience developing and leading the evaluation and selection (request for proposals) of contractors for construction.
- Previous vendor negotiation and management associated with construction and project execution.
- Understand electrical engineering best practices including power, breaker coordination studies and switch gear sequence of operation.
- Understand mechanical engineering systems such as HVAC and air handling.
- Able to read and interpret construction related drawings for all disciplines.

Job summary

We are looking for a South East Asia Construction Team Lead, who will be responsible for the managing the team of Amazon Data Center (DC) Construction Managers to build Hyperscale Data Centers across the rapidly growing SE Asia Countries. This role will report to the APAC Head of Construction, and will be responsible for:

- Management of the pipeline of construction projects across the SE Asia region
- Development of annual construction budgets, working in conjunction with AWS Finance
- Planning resources on a quarterly basis. Hiring & onboarding, and training & growth construction staff
- Implementation of processes and controls to ensure a consistent high-quality delivery of projects
- Oversight of SE Asia Data Center projects, from initiation to procurement and construction, to handover
- Coordination with other AWS stakeholders supporting the data center development in SE Asia
- Coordination with engineering, commissioning, other on-site execution teams and LLE providers
- Drive the performance of team through cost, time, quality and safety metrics
- Growth of our supply base of contractors, vendors, and consultants
- Implementation of continuous improvements to processes and methodologies, as we expand in APAC
- Reporting of issues and results to senior AWS APJC and global management leaders

About the team

Our DCCD Team manages the Construction, Controls, Testing & Commissioning and Critical Projects for the AWS APJC Region. We are growing rapidly across a number of countries in the region. This role reports to the APJC Construction Lead, and works directly with the Testing & Commissioning Lead, Controls, and oother Construction Teams in APJC, AMER and EMEA.
- Fluent in English, other APJC languages are a plus
- Experience directly related to the design, operation, or construction of data centers.
- Experience with fast track design/build projects and or multiple significant upgrade projects.
- Experience with large scale technical operations or large-scale compute farms.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, CE, and OSHA.
- Knowledge and experience with large scale power systems.
