**What the role is**:
The Plant Science and Health workstream involves integrating the knowledge of multiple scientific disciplines to effectively address issues threatening the health of urban greenery in Singapore. It provides professional diagnosis, advisory and identification services for plant pests and phytosanitary regulation of plants and plant products to safeguard plant health, protect the quality of the environment and facilitate agro-trade. NParks is the National authority for plant health for Singapore and a signatory of the International Plant Protection Convention to protect international trade from plant pests.

**What you will be working on:
**_Research and Development _**
- To undertake research projects to develop and establish/adopt new test techniques or pest management technologies
- To prepare scientific papers for publication in technical journals

**_Diagnostic Services & Surveillance _**
- To provide competent diagnosis using traditional and molecular techniques for plant pest identification, pest management, phytosanitary certification and advisory service to the horticulture/landscape sectors, plant traders and members of the public
- To plan, manage and conduct plant health surveillance with collection of plant samples in farms, parks, and amenity areas to monitor pest/disease populations with the aim to prevent outbreaks of plant pests in Singapore

**_Pest Risk Analysis & Policy Review _**
- Conduct and review import or pest risk analysis to identify the risk of plant pests and its mitigation measures to reduce the risk to an acceptable level
- Review policies with updated risk assessment to provide the technical justifications for any proposed policy change in plant health regulation under the Control of Plants Act and its subsidiary legislation

**_Laboratory Quality Management System under ISO/IEC 17025: 2017 _**
- To deal with all matters related to laboratory quality management system under the ISO/IEC 17025:2017; perform frequent checks and recommend preventive actions and perform corrective actions to ensure all lab safety and maintenance meet ISO/IEC 17025 guidelines
- To perform general administration i.e., conduct regular checks on inventory, submit purchase orders for lab supplies and maintenance of analytical instruments to ensure adequate inventory and instrumentation for laboratory analyses

**_Local and International Relations _**
- Represent Singapore in international meetings on plant health and manage communication with overseas counterparts on plant health issues
- Conduct active engagement with public through online presentation and demonstration of plant health related talks

**What we are looking for**
- Masters or PhD in Entomology, Nematology, Plant Pathology/Microbiology or related fields
- Preferably holds a valid Class 3 Driving License and able to drive the company car for work purpose
- Able to write and communicate well in English; conversant in at least one other language or dialect in order to engage stakeholders who are non-English speaking
- Knowledge and experience in coding would be advantageous, especially with respect to biostatistics and bioinformatics
- Knowledge and experience in applied microbiology, molecular biology and/or genomics would be advantageous
- Able to work outdoors and has a keen interest in plants and plant pests
- Able to work independently and in a team with members from different backgrounds
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
