The Senior Scientist will be a key technical leader in R&D and Solutions Innovation, a group within Tate & Lyle’s Innovation and Commercial Development Division (ICD).

**RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES**

This Senior Scientist will have the following responsibilities and accountabilities.
- Support Capex project deliverables; participate in the testing, installation, and commissioning activities of high throughput laboratory equipment.
- Work in the high throughput lab to support the development of new products and optimization of existing products and processes.
- Develop and validate analytical methods for the characterization of novel ingredients.
- Develop, implement and improve automated laboratory workflows.
- Support new product development initiatives for all of ICD including - Texturants, Sweeteners, and Health and Wellness platforms.
- Work collaboratively with ICD platform teams in Chicago, USA.
- Work closely with external vendors and other R&D scientists to ensure a safe and smooth operation of the high throughput lab.
- Work closely with ICD project managers and platform leads to conduct voice-of-customer meetings within the Asia Pacific region for projects targeting the regional market
**REQUIREMENTS**

Fluency in English and/or relevant languages/dialects (Mandarin or other Chinese dialects, Thai, Bahasa Indonesia) used in Asia countries is an added advantage.
- Deep experience in organic chemistry and analytical characterization is required.
Strong troubleshooting skills and willingness to tackle problems independently by root cause analysis are required.
- Basic engineering knowledge, e.g. mechanical and electrical, experience in mechanical and instrument maintenance is required.
- Experience in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and its integration with laboratory workflows is desired.
- Familiarity with IT systems including control systems and networks is desired.
- Experience in performing data analysis and data visualization using tools such as Power BI is desired.
- Knowledge/experience in software programming (C# and Python) is desired.
- Tapioca and corn-based food ingredients knowledge are desired.

Experience in any of the areas of ingredient design from the following list is also desirable:

- Chemical modification of food ingredients
- Physical processing of food ingredients (spray drying, drum drying agglomeration, blending, etc.)
- Natural products extraction, and separations technology as applied to ingredient design
- Physical characterization
- Formulation of complex food ingredient systems
