**Senior Monitoring Reviewer**

**Location**:Home based contract, with travel required to conduct monitoring visits**

**What's the role?**

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Monitoring Team, our team of qualified accountants who are dedicated to reviewing and improving professional standards in the UK’s audit and accountancy profession.

You will be undertaking practice, audit, and anti-money laundering (AML) monitoring visits to members and firms across Scotland and elsewhere in the UK (whether through onsite visits, or remotely).

As one of two Senior Reviewers in the team, you will also have important responsibilities in relation to quality control, and the broader strategy for monitoring at ICAS.

- **Senior responsibilities**: as a Senior Reviewer, you will have leadership responsibilities within the team, ensuring that other reviewers are properly trained, supported, and advised on the challenging issues which may arise during visits. You will also be expected to identify and implement improvements to processes to make them more effective.
- **Career position**: this role will place you in a good career position as a respected compliance professional. Whilst staff retention is important, a number of our past reviewers have secured senior compliance, technical and client-facing positions in practice and in finance.
- **Networking**: you will build professional relationships and contacts with firms throughout the UK. You will also engage with our boards and committees, other professional bodies, and government regulators, including the FRC and OPBAS.
- **Continuing Professional Development**: we will support you in obtaining the CPD you need for this role and we invest in the skills development of our team.

**Who we are looking for**

We are looking for a professionally qualified accountant with significant experience of regulatory monitoring at a professional accountancy body with an extensive and wide-ranging level of technical knowledge.
- Experience working in the audit department of sizeable audit registered firm, with significant audit hours and at least two years' post qualification experience in audit, preferably at manager, senior manager or principal level.
- Experience of large corporate firm audits (listed audit experience is also desirable).
- Your skills and knowledge must include:

- International Standards on Auditing (ISAs).
- UK GAAP (IFRS knowledge will also be highly desirable).
- FRC Ethical standards (or familiarly with ethical requirements).
- AML legislation and supporting requirements.

There are a number of key challenges within this role, primarily in relation to the conduct of monitoring visits, where there are often difficult messages to convey to firms and individuals regarding the implications of a visit that identifies areas of non-compliance, or a lack of competence and integrity.

Therefore we are looking for someone who has exllent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, with an understanding of adapting their approach to suit the audience.
