Senior Research Engineer - Materials & Thermodynamics Ember Research is embarking on an exciting phase with the creation of a research team in Singapore. This pioneer team has the critical mandate to research and develop temperature control technologies of novel materials, thermodynamics, sensors, connectivity, charging, manufacturing processes(the list goes on), to enable solutions for the next generation of Ember products. This pioneer role offers the opportunity to shape the technology road map and to initiate/ execute/ own key research projects. With an inquisitive, relentless and pragmatic mindset, you will search out opportunities to collaborate internally and externally to develop solutions for thermo-electrics, refrigeration systems, thermal materials (phase change, coatings, etc.), novel geometries, etc. **Responsibilities**: - Develop, align and deliver the technology projects and roadmap (Materials & Thermodynamics), to enable the Ember product range plan - Collaborate internally to generate concepts for new technologies, thermal solutions, materials, coatings and manufacturing technologies - Collaborate with external research agencies to initiate and execute required T-projects for the Ember technology roadmap - Identify and evaluate state of the art in thermal management solutions and systems(heat transfer/ storage) - Initiate and own Research and Technology projects (T-projects), conduct and lead Technical Reviews - Weekly T-project updates and reporting -Lead internal teams to problem solve technical issues in the EVT to SOP phase - Lead internal teams to problem solve technical issues in the EVT to SOP phase - Develop and contribute to the Technology Readiness Framework (T-projects) - Coach and develop other Research & Technology Engineers, establishing best practices - Setup the Ember research laboratory and prototyping capabilities - Perform other job-related tasks as required **Requirements**: - A first degree in Mechanical, Aerospace/Aeronautical or Materials Engineering or equivalent (other relevant engineering disciplines will be considered). A Masters degree is desirable - 7+ years of relevant experience is desirable - Good working knowledge with the properties, limitations and characterization of materials, prior experience in material selection to meet engineering requirements - Ability to perform heat transfer calculations and proficient in the principles of thermodynamics, material science and fluid dynamics - Ability to analyze engineering problems through a combination of quick hand calculations and more detailed simulation where appropriate. - Proficient in experimental techniques, problem solving methodologies (example, Six Sigma), statistical analysis, failure analysis methodologies, FMEA techniques - Proficient in a programming language such as MATLAB and good working knowledge of CFD principles and previous experience with ANSYS CFD and Star CCM+ tools - Ability to design experiments, build and test prototypes - Understanding of project management techniques to run T-projects is desirable - Ability to distill complex technical issues and communicate concisely and accurately in verbal and written formats - Collaborative, team player and will communicate honest and difficult messages in the interest of Ember - Ability to be available for calls/meetings in other time zones outside of normal business hours - Ability and flexibility to travel(
