Lead Product Designer

**About the role**:
We are looking for an experienced Product Designer to join our growing product team to own the StashAway Design System and promote its usage across teams and projects. The design system is a key component in our product design process and provides clarity for interaction patterns and consistency throughout our different product areas. We are looking for someone who is passionate about designing in systems and willing to become a mentor to others in the team in educating and promoting the best practices and usage of the design system across teams.

**Responsibilities**:

- Design and maintain the components, UI patterns, Master Design files, and documentation for StashAway’s design system and component library on mobile and web apps
- Work side-by-side with product designers, engineers, UX writers, and other stakeholders from around the company to develop the tools and processes they need to build top of the class user experiences
- Work closely with engineers where appropriate to improve developer experience when utilizing DS assets
- Write documentation and usage guidelines that teach designers and engineers how to use components and patterns in design projects
- Uphold StashAway’s high standards for design and product quality
- Act as an advisor and mentor to the team by providing guidance and assistance in adopting and fully utilizing the value of design systems.
- Participate actively in design reviews and critique sessions.
- Manage and mentor junior designers on the team

**Requirements**:
**Must-haves**:

- 6+ years experience designing for consumer products or equivalent experience
- A portfolio demonstrating skills and experience in working with design systems or creating design systems from scratch.
- Ability to think in systems. You can anticipate how a system will be used and the potential downstream effects of large and small changes.
- Take pride in creating strong foundational systems and understand how to evolve them over time. You can recognize patterns across multiple product areas and predict future needs
- Care deeply about helping other designers and engineers. You understand the needs of both and can design high leverage tools and processes that enable collaboration
- Have experience using a range of design skills (visual design, systems design, user experience design) to deliver compelling design solutions to systematic problems
- Have a sharp eye for detail in design and can collaborate with engineers to ensure the implementation considers that detail when applied with different constraints
- Good communications skills. Able to communicate large, complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You understand that system-wide changes impact more than just designers and engineers and can understand how and when to communicate those changes
- Good project management skills, including a sound understanding of dependencies, prioritization, scope, and time management.
