We are also the driving force behind Orang Laut SG, a local ground-up initiative and non-profit organisation. Our mission is to empower indigenous voices and, importantly, to safeguard and celebrate our rich traditions and knowledge. In the last few years, The Black Sampan has reinvested our resources in creating educational and heritage programmes about Singapore's indigenous histories for our non-profit organisation.

**About our initiative: Orang Laut SG**

Orang Laut SG is a ground-up initiative dedicated to advocating for preserving and celebrating the cultural heritage of the Orang Laut/Orang Pulau in Singapore. Through various initiatives, Orang Laut SG strives to raise awareness about the rich traditions, language, art, and way of life of the Orang Laut/Pulau community. It also promotes their socio-economic empowerment and environmental conservation effort.

**Role Overview**:
The Programmes & Outreach Executive plays a vital role in supporting the organisation's mission by

assisting in the planning, coordination, and implementation of cultural preservation programmes and

outreach activities. This internship offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about cultural heritage, community engagement, and social advocacy to gain hands-on experience in the non-profit sector.

**Key Responsibilities**:
1. Programme Support: Assist in the development and execution of cultural preservation programmes, workshops, and events such as ‘Hari Orang Pulau’ and ‘Orang Laut SG Heritage Garden’, aimed at raising awareness about the heritage and traditions of the Orang Laut/Pulau community.

2. Outreach and Communication: Contribute to outreach efforts through social media management,

content creation, monthly newsletter, and community engagement activities to promote Orang Laut SG's initiatives and build relationships with stakeholders.

3. Event Coordination: Support logistics planning, venue coordination, participant registration, and

on-site management for events, exhibitions, and cultural performances organised by Orang Laut SG.

4. Volunteer Management: Assist in recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers to support various programmes and events, ensuring smooth execution and positive participant experiences.

5. Research and Documentation: Conduct research on Orang Laut/Pulau culture, history, and

contemporary issues to inform programme development, content creation, and advocacy efforts. Assist in documenting programme outcomes, participant feedback, and success stories for reporting and evaluation purposes.

6. Administrative Support: Provide general administrative assistance, such as data entry, filing,

scheduling meetings, and responding to inquiries from stakeholders, partners, and the public.

**Qualifications**:

- Passion for cultural preservation, community development, and social justice.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organisational and multitasking abilities, with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
- Prior experience in event planning, community outreach, or non-profit work is a plus.
- Knowledge of or interest in Southeast Asian cultures and indigenous communities is desirable.

**Duration**:
This full-time position requires reporting duties from 10am to 6pm on weekdays, excluding events and programmes that may fall on weekends.
