**OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE**:
The Head of Medical Affairs for Growth & Emerging Markets (GEM) is based in Singapore to support Local Operating Countries (LOCs) across the GEM region. Responsible for building a medical affairs community across the region to enable knowledge and experience sharing and instill a sense of belonging. Acts as a medical thought partner for regional executive teams and drives strategic priorities for the region. Ensures GEM Therapeutic Area (TA) teams (Vaccines and Oncology) are established as experts and enables cross functional and cross border collaboration. Assesses and prioritizes the capability needs and provides tools to support LOCs in their efforts. Consolidates and oices the needs of the GEM region within the Chief Medical Office (CMO) and Research & Development (R&D) organizations.

**ACCOUNTABILITIES**:

- Medical and scientific affairs leadership & oversight of strategy & deliverable for all franchises in region.
- Act as medical **thought partner **for the regional president and drive **strategic priorities for the region.**:

- Align & prioritize resources/budget to support regional needs.
- Guide the teams to think out of the box and introduce novel solutions in a rapidly changing environment.
- Collaborate with Global Medical Affairs (GMA) strategy franchise heads, GEM-focused regional TA leads, GEM LET and General Managers.
- Provide leadership to therapeutically aligned medical directors for their region (in Oncology and Vaccines) and related regional support staff to meet the business needs of their region. Ensure activities are scientifically sound, within relevant guidelines, within budget, and of appropriate quality standard.
- Provide leadership to Local Operating Country Medical Directors and facilitate alignment and support of LOCs to ensure the success of regional commercial and medical affairs activities.
- Partner with Head, Affiliate Support, Compliance and GMA operations to design and implement Global Standard Operating procedures that are aligned with the regional needs. Oversee communication and implementation of these SOPs within their region.
- Provide medical and scientific input to GEM priorities.
- Partner closely with LOCs including the access groups, NPP planning, and MCE.
- Partner with General Managers in identification, acquisition, development, performance management and retention of LOC Medical Directors.
- Work with LOC medical directors and lead integration and communication to internal and external regulatory and development teams as appropriate of strategic medical input to ensure maximization of a product’s therapeutic and commercial potential across all therapeutic areas, prioritized for the region.
- For Oncology and Vaccines, accountable for the development of the regional strategic communication plan in line with the product Life Cycle Management Plan, communication and alignment of this plan with the global publications team, and oversight of plan execution including the production of publications (abstracts, manuscripts) from all regional publications.
- Anticipate or identify changes in the marketplace that may provide scientific, medical, regulatory and/or commercial opportunities for Takeda.
- Be an integral part of the Global Medical (GM) leadership team ensuring alignment between GM and the GEM region and represent the regional perspective.
- Participate in select regional medical and scientific forums, conferences and meetings.

- Comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and Medical Affairs.
- Experience working with national and international regulatory agencies.
- Good knowledge of the Regional healthcare market, able to identify healthcare trends and the related commercially opportunities within the Region.
