DESIGNATION : Resident Care Assistant

RESPONSIBILITIES
A Resident Care Assistant (RCA) is responsible for attending to residents’ needs in their activities of daily living and performing basic care procedures under the direction of trained nurses and according to established policies, procedures and guidelines. He/she is also responsible to provide a safe and quality basic care to the residents.

**General Care Duties**
Assists in carrying out various basic care activities for the resident which include:

- Oral hygiene.
- Dressing and grooming.
- Changing of bed linen and tidying beds and lockers.
- Serving of meals and drinks to the residents.
- Assist in feeding those residents that needed assistance.
- Toileting needs
- Turning and positioning.
- Transferring of Residents from bed to trolley/wheelchair and vice-versa.
- Perform planned nursing interventions within their knowledge and competencies, e.g. vital signs monitoring.
- Support trained nurses in medical emergency or crisis situations as and when the need arise.

**Residents’ Engagement**
- Participate in conducting daily engagement activities and exercises with the residents.
- Communication engagement with the residents, e.g, chatting with those elderly who are lonely.
- Participate in therapeutic activities with the residents, e.g gardening activity, watering plants, etc

**Chaperon/Medical Escort**
- Assist to chaperon during medical doctor’s rounds.
- Accompany residents with stable conditions for clinical appointments or transfers to other centres or hospital transfers

**Assist with General Duties**
- Answering of resident’s call-bell and gives assistance within the constraints of his/her responsibilities.
- Maintaining the cleanliness of the resident’s surroundings, e.g. cardiac table, lockers.

**Other Duties**:

- Assume any other additional responsibilities as assigned by Senior Nurse Manager/Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager/Senior Staff Nurses (SNM/NM/ANM/SSN)
- Maintain good communication skills with residents and sponsors

QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum GCE ‘N’ Levels
- ITE Skills Certificates in Health Sciences (In-patient) or WSQ Certificate in Healthcare Support (Nursing Care) will be an added advantage

OTHER INFORMATION
- Must be able to read and understand simple English.
- Physically and medically fit for work as the job requires frequent walking and standing.
- Computer literate
- Pleasant disposition and personality
- Passionate towards Elderly Care
- Able to perform some simply physical work
- Willing to multi-task and work in an elderly friendly environment
