Reinsurance - Underwriting Assistant

1. Purpose
- The role holder is a member of the MS Amlin Underwriting Limited (MS AUL) Reinsurance and is responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of the vision and the strategy for the MS Amlin Asia Pacific (MS AAP) Reinsurance team in relation to specific portfolio(s) and / or markets to an agreed authority level.
- The purpose of the role is to assist the Underwriters’ with system entries, credit control, provide full administrative support and to undertake any ad-hoc project work that may be required.
- They will look to learn the basic concpets of underwriting through the structured SCI training as well as on the job training and mentoring from senior members of the team.
- The role will lead to the role holder eventually assisting and helping to underwrite profitable risks within the Singapore Reinsurance team, in order to retain and grow allocated or new accounts in line with the business plan.
- 2. Key Result Areas.
- Underwriting
- Assist generating and managing business on a client relationship basis for specific portfolio and product groups and platforms within MS AAP Reinsurance
- Regularly check risks are written within agree parameters and running the necessary reports.
- Alignment to and delivery of tactical client intimacy initiatives within the portfolio(s), markets and product forum.
- Undertake analysis of the portfolio to identify business opportunities, products and clients, ensuring a robust business case.
- Undertake sound market analysis and target potential new clients, brokers and products
- Ensure that credit control related queries are responded to in a timely manner
- Enter all of the premium and risk details on to the underwriting system, ensuring high levels of accuracy;
- Ensure that all risk documents are scanned on to the underwriting workflow system and indexed accurately and in a timely manner;
- Manage individual and group work baskets ensuring that all items are processed efficiently and in good time
- Monitoring / assisting with the generation of tax invoice / debit notes
- Assisting claims team with premium status check
- Upkeep of spreadsheets and relevant documents
- Data entry for rating tools.
- Reporting
- Run MicroStrategy reports as required;
- Produce and maintain MS Excel schedules as required.
- Management Information
- Ensure the risk entry system is maintained
- Ensure the rating guide is maintained
- Produce appropriate and accurate class reports as necessary
- Analyse quarterly figures and produce necessary projections to identify reserving necessary
- Review underwriting figures on a regular basis in order that unusual trends and / or adverse movements may be dealt with by appropriate action
- Monitoring

- Remain alert to developments affecting the business of the class, the potential profitability of the class and opportunities for the class, and to report on such matters, as appropriate, to the Lead Underwriter
- Remain alert to developments affecting the business of the SBU, and in particular the efficient management of the section. Report on such matters, as appropriate, to the Underwriters’ or the Underwriting Management;
- Participate in the monitoring of premium payments and liaise with Brokers and CRT where necessary;
