The Consultant Employee Relations (ER) will serve as the single point of contact for employee relations for Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia commercial function. In addition, it would also entail coaching and advising HRBPs on complex ER matters in the SEA region. The Consultant ER Specialist will work closely with Country and BU leadership to build strong relationships between employees and managers. The role takes a proactive, strategic approach to employee relations by identifying higher-level employee relations trends, recommending solutions that address root cause of issue, and partnering with leadership on execution. The role acts a key partner to leaders in driving employee relations strategies, while maintaining a neutral position. A key component of the role includes national strategic projects and specifically within the SEA region to continue building the employee relations function and developing processes, as well as building manager skill sets.
The ER Consultant works directly with leaders, managers and employees to provide advice and coach both parties on all employee relations issues. The role provides strong partnership on performance management, disciplinary processes, restructuring activity, legal issues, investigations, conflict management, policy interpretation, etc. Work involves assessing and resolving complex employee relations matters ensuring consistency across client groups and alignment with Medtronic practices. The role helps to ensure an equitable and consistent approach to Medtronic's policies and procedures, thus promoting a positive culture within the business, while minimizing risks. The partner provides a single point of contact for employee relations issues to ensure clear communication and efficiency in resolving matters. The role requires skill, tact, influence, judgment, and/or negotiation skills to accomplish objectives.
This role works closely with the in-house legal team/external legal counselor, Compliance, Audit, the wider Human Resources community and with clients to deliver an equitable, consistent ER service, both minimizing risk to the business and aligning work to meet business needs.
**A DAY IN THE LIFE: Employee Relations Consultant**
Your responsibilities and daily activities include:
- Responsible for decision-making on high profile/risk situations based on deep expertise, and shares information as required with relevant stakeholders. Works fully independently and is self-initiating.
- Involved in and/or lead high level/Regional/global projects and/or within a complex matrix organization
- Acts as coach/mentor to team members including more experienced members. Recognized by peers as expert and sought out for advice.
- Effectively leads complex, global / regional projects and projects that connect with key stakeholders outside of ER and/or in a complex matrix organization
Complexity linked to multiple business / functions / environments /countries and/or multiple legal and social environments
- Often times these initiatives involve divergent perspectives and/or are driving notable change
A Global Project lead needs to take into consideration the cultural, local legislature and complexity of languages.
- Responsible for effectively handling ER issues at all levels of leadership, including highly sensitive executive matters, global/regional cases, high risk and with multiple mitigating factors (complexity) in partnership with ER senior leadership and multiple senior executives, including managing local crisis management actions as needed.
- Regularly conducts investigations and handles ER issues involving Sr executive leadership (VP and above), issues with global / regional implication, HR or high visibility, complex cases. These cases typically involve elevated sensitivity or risk and require an extensive level of judgment.
- Oversees large scale and complex RIF activity for a business, function or region, acts as SME and provides coaching to ER Partners and with resolving issues throughout RIF process and escalates issues as needed. May act as project manager and will direct work of others for large-scale RIFs.
- Coaches on and handles performance issues and conflict resolution for senior leadership level in a way that supports motivation and engagement from all parties to bring situation to desired outcome.
- Ability to understand strategy to develop solution/diagnose issues from complex cases
- Actively influence divergent viewpoints and highly complex situations with many factors to consider
- Independently analyzes ER data, identifies trends and root issues and provides recommendations on large scale proactive initiatives that achieves desired impact, as well as larger scale process improvements and implements large -scale global / regional / cross country solutions.
