Power Protection Specialist

The role requires strong theoretical and hands-on expertise in protection relay systems, including configuration, functional testing, and integration with IEC 61850 standards and Brazilian NR regulations in high-voltage environments. It also demands offshore commissioning experience on Petrobras FPSO projects, with proven ability to troubleshoot and validate complex electrical generation and distribution systems. Proficiency in using a wide range of specialized test equipment and working with multi-brand protection relays and SCADA systems is critical to ensuring reliability and regulatory compliance

**Job Description**:
**Essential Responsibilities**:

- Willing to travel overseas for long term working, extended hours during the week, at weekends/holidays at critical times.
- Willing to mobilize when required at short notice, including offshore when required.
- Perform protection relay configuration, testing, and commissioning, including integration with IEC 61850-based systems for high
- and low-voltage electrical networks.
- Lead on-site and offshore commissioning activities for Petrobras FPSO projects, ensuring all power protection systems function according to design specifications.
- Conduct functional tests using advanced diagnostic equipment, such as OMICRON, Megger, VEBKO, and Fluke kits, to validate system integrity and safety.
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in protection systems, motor drives, transformers, and switchgear during commissioning and startup phases.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, customers, and subcontractors to ensure seamless project execution and compliance with Brazilian NR regulations.
- Support SCADA, PLC, and relay integration, including configuration of systems from multiple vendors (e.g., Siemens, GE, ABB, Schneider, SEL).

**Qualifications/Requirements**:

- On site commissioning of Petrobras FPSO projects are essential
- Key to the success is experience in special test devices: Megger Contact Resistance And Insulation Resistance Tester, Vebko AMT205 and Omicron CMC356 Test Kit, Tan Delta Testing Kits, SFRA Testing Kit, Power Quality Measurement Kits.
- Experience in special equipment: Protection Relays UR, F650, series 3 and 8 (GE); PLC P80 / RXi (GE); SAGE (Cepel); Switches Cisco, Hirschmann, Ruggedcom is essential

**Desired Characteristics**:

- Strong Theoretical knowledge in Protection Relays and Protection Function Tests.
- Strong Theoretical knowledge in IEC61850 Standard.
- Strong Theoretical knowledge in Regulatory Standard (NR).
- Experience in special equipment: Protection Relays 451, 487, 751, 2411 And 2440 (Sel); REF615 And REM615 (ABB); Siprotec 4, Siprotec 5 (Siemens); Sepam Series 80 And Easergy P3 (Schneider); Micom P142; PLC Compact Logix 1769 (Rockwell); Scada: Sicam/Wincc (Siemens); Cimplicity (GE); Elipse E3/Elipse Power;
- Analytical thinking. Logical and Structured thinking to solve complex problems.

- Excellent report writing skills
- Demonstrated modeling and technical experience in technical performance analysis of electric power systems with power electronic sources or loads. Experience in planning and execution of technical projects relevant to electric power systems and equipment design.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g. ability to effectively communicate with all levels of GE and customer/plant staff).
- Understanding of grid systems interactions with power plant equipment and controls.
- PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering or related science
- Industry reputation, prior IEEE/CIGRE published articles related to practical (not overly-academic) topics, participation in industry standards working groups.
