Forum Director, Singapore
The Forum Director is a front-line team member for Singapore. That requires a capacity not only to engage with the issues and put together the sessions but also to chair sessions with regional CEOs and meet them 1-on-1 to talk about issues for the forum to explore. The role also requires an ability to write brief session summaries that give a concise and clear overview of the debates. The role has two main tasks, each of which takes up 40% of the time:
**Producing great peer group sessions.**
- Constant work on a rolling 12-month schedule - defining the ideas for sessions, scheduling them, and then producing them. This requires gathering ideas from forum members, tapping the insights of our MD and Forum Advisory Board members, and talking with other IMA team members.
- Obtaining leading local commentators on strategy and markets to provide a focus point for starting debates (McKinsey, Bain, AT Kearney, PWC etc.) As we have a strong client list, they are all keen to take part.
- Lining up 1-3 forum members as opening commentators (for 5-10 minutes) with off-the-cuff comments based on their personal experience
- Coordinating with our forum chairs (often our MD) on issues and with our Admin team on venues and the schedule for contacting forum members.
**Client engagement and retention.**
- **1-on-1 meetings with all forum members **to chat about their interests, let them know about sessions they’ve missed, explore ideas for future sessions (including pinning them down as opening commentators). Written call reports (of about a page) after each meeting; they need to be completed within 24 hours. 5-8 such meetings a week are normal.
- **Engaging with missing forum members **who our Administration team will help identify. Call reports required as above.
- **Sharing forum insights **. On 1-on-1 calls you must be able to talk to senior MNC executives about the insights on strategy and markets from prior forum meetings.
**Remaining 20% of the time. **There are two smaller tasks:
- **Assisting on new sales **. Our marketing team runs an effective sales funnel. They sometimes need assistance from a front-line team member to meet with a prospect and explain how the forum works.
- **Developing the plan. **We are keen to grow the business. First and foremost, that’s by improving and constantly evolving existing programs. It also covers planning for additional forums with a functional focus (such as CFO).
**Additional points to note**
We are a small team of 15-20 working across four countries. Team play is essential. Our Singapore operation currently has a full-time administrator, an economist, and a support secretary. Our MD (Richard Martin) is in Singapore at least a week a month, and sometimes more. We have three Client Advisory Board members and a part-time editor in Singapore. A research team of 4-5 sits alongside us in the office (at Intercedent Asia, a sister firm). Along with our MD, they can provide clients with presentations and briefings for visiting HQ staff.
**Who we are looking for**:
- A strong interest in corporate strategy and Asian markets.
- Great team play skills.
- Great inter-personal skills. In this front-line role, you will be meeting with senior executives from major MNCs every day. Sometimes, you’ll need to chair meetings (see below). If you are uncomfortable with that don’t apply.
