Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) is looking for a full-time Donor Coordinator to join Brain Bank Singapore. The brain bank is jointly run by LKCMedicine, the National Neuroscience Institute (NNI), the National Healthcare Group (NHG) and National University of
Personal characteristics- Effective communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills is essential - with the ability to interact effectively with people at all levels, including patients with neurological disorders, their families, as well as the general public/community.- Excellent data management, IT and administrative skills - particularly in handling confidential personal data held in the Brain Bank Singapore database and ensuring compliance to regulatory and ethical requirements.- Good problem-solving skills and ability to effectively multitask.- Marketing skills and knowledge of computer processing and presentation packages (Microsoft Office) with ability to conduct publicity drives and educational forums.- Prior basic knowledge of neurological or neurodegenerative disorders will be an advantage.- Responsible and self-driven to maintain the highest standards for Brain Bank Singapore.
Tasks and key responsibilities
The incumbent will be an essential liaison point for both potential and registered donors to the Brain Bank Singapore.- Persons affected by neurological disorders (including their families and carers).- Members of the lay community who are healthy and choose to register as donors.- Relatives of deceased donors - to liaise with family members of deceased donors in difficult situations that required particularly sensitive interactions.- Patient organisations in Singapore to promote awareness of the importance of brain donation for research.- Healthcare professionals with an interest in neurological conditions, to promote work of the Brain Bank and enlist help with promotion of the future Tissue Bank strategies.- Organisations offering ethical and legal guidance on brain/tissue retrieval, including ethics committees and the MoH.- Research governance at LKCMedicine to establish and/or clarify documentation and procedures relevant to the Brain Bank.- Directors and other teams in the Brain Bank to identify and implement improvements in the daily and longer-term work of the Brain Bank.
Management of the work of the Tissue Bank- Overseeing the running and updating of the Brain Bank donor database together with the clinical teams.- Coordination of the various aspects of the day-to-day running of the Brain Bank - including handling of consent forms, IRB renewals and updates, brain retrieval, transport and other formalities needed, in coordination with the various clinical teams and the Procedural Skills Laboratory at Academia.- Setting up and running sample and image database in order to ensure compliance with the Medical (Therapy, Education and Research) Act (MTERA) and to streamline workflow.- Designing a mechanism for communicating the progress of the Brain Bank with prospective donors and their families.- Organizing the removal and collection of post-mortem brain and spinal cord material from donors around Singapore in coordination with staff from MOH and Academia.- To act as Assistant Manager to the Brain Bank Manager, which will involve deputizing for various duties.
Qualification- Degree in Life Sciences / /Psychology & any other relevant discipline, with relevant work experience- Diploma in Life Sciences; Diploma / Adv Diploma / Degree in Nursing, with relevant work experience
