Senior Manager, Policy

Introduction:
Economist Impact combines the rigour of a think tank with the creativity of a media brand to engage global decision makers on the critical economic and policy issues facing our world. As part of The Economist Group, our mission is to open debate, broaden perspectives and catalyse progress through evidence-based insight. We are seeking a Senior Manager based in one of our locations in Asia (Singapore or Hong Kong preferred), to work with an internationally-focused and diverse research team.

Our Policy & Insights team works with leading organisations to deliver research and content programmes to drive change on the world’s most pressing issues. Our four core thematic practice areas include: (1) Globalisation, Trade & Finance; (2) Sustainability, Climate Change & Natural Resources; (3) Technology and Society and (4) Public Health.

As Senior Manager you will drive research and consulting projects and develop thought leadership to support client engagements. You will manage small and highly-productive project teams to deliver high-quality work to tight timelines. You will demonstrate intellectual leadership in your areas of expertise and work with clients to generate ideas and create impact.

Accountabilities:
**How you will contribute**:

- Develop quantitative and qualitative methodologies to generate new analytical insights on key policy and research questions; develop project proposals
- Manage project workstreams and provide intellectual direction to project teams
- Ensure quality of project deliverables and provide constant feedback to team members
- Generate thought leadership on public policy issues
- Present research findings at client meetings and events
- Support client development teams in identifying new clients, donors or funding sources; grow existing accounts and deepen client relationships
- Manage a team of 3-7 managers and analysts, including on project work and as a mentor and personal development coach
- Support Regional Head in regional planning initiatives and ongoing management tasks

Experience, skills and professional attributes:

- University degree in economics, public policy, development or other policy-related discipline
- Intimate knowledge of issues in economic development such as industrial/infrastructure development, SMEs, trade, innovation etc. in an Asian context
- Experience working with socioeconomic data such as national accounts, household/business surveys and development indicators
- 7 years’ experience in a public policy-focused role in a research or consulting organisation and at least 2 years’ experience in managing people
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to translate complex analysis into readable content
- Excellent analytical skills; ability to accurately formulate problem statements and develop methodologies to address critical research questions
- Client management experience; comfortable with client interaction and interest in building relationships
- Proven ability to motivate and lead project teams, especially under tight deadlines
- Native or near-native fluency in English

**Any of the following qualifications would be a plus**:

- Graduate degree in economics, public policy, development or other policy-related discipline
- Experience in developing new clients, donors or funding sources in research/consulting
- Data analysis skills (either statistical analysis or computer programming)
- Knowledge of a language spoken in Southeast Asia
- English-language editing skills developed through formal editorial training
