Fuel Oil and Distillate Market Analyst

We are seeking to hire an Oil Analyst to join our global Physical Oil business working in a fast-paced trading environment, providing fundamental and quantitative analysis to the oil desk.

Macquarie’s Commodities Trading is part of our Commodities and Global Markets group which provides product solutions to producers, consumers, private equity, financial institutions, and investors with an integrated, end-to-end offering across global markets including equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, and commodities.

Main role and responsibilities include:

- Maintaining S&D models for global Fuel Oil and regional Asian Distillate desks by analysing future trade flows, examining yields and production based on changing conditions.
- Monitoring of statistics and refinery margins across the region, including covering analysis of events and ad hoc analysis.
- Assist with task automation in terms of sourcing for raw data, uploading models and uploads to various systems.
- Facilitate and contribute to communication with the desk and assist with creating dashboards to easily visualise data.
- Assist with ad-hoc analysis for benefit of trading desks, such as powergen use and substitution with other energy forms (ie LPG/ Distillate/ NGas/ Coal)
- Assess Asian and Middle East trade flow tracking and likely future flows given current economics
- Examine yields and resulting production and their spec basis changing economics, refinery configurations, regulations
- Actively communicate key findings within the immediate team as well as the global trading and analytics teams

You will also be actively following oil market events and working with the wider team to provide views and generate trading ideas.

To be successful in the role, ideally, you’ll be/have
- Recent technically oriented graduate with possibly 2-5 years relevant experience using quantitative skills
- Expert in excel, VBA, python, proficient with relational databases and SQL, at ease with managing data with variety of tools/techniques
- Excellent ability to analyse data to identify trends, able to connect the dots and interpolate trends. Proven experience in market analysis will be highly regarded
- High interest in commodity/financial markets
- Willing to put in effort to complete projects on time and conscious of quality
- Entrepreneurial spirit and a creative approach to problem solving with teams
- Ability to work within a fast-paced environment, be resourceful and demonstrate initiative
- Strong communication skills and ability to seamlessly interact with senior executives
