Deputy Regional Program Director, Management and Impact

The Deputy Director of Program Management and Impact will lead the development and implementation of key regional energy transition strategies, working closely with Tara's program directors and partners. This role involves managing a team of experienced program leads, providing guidance, and empowering them to deliver impactful results. The Director will also be responsible for identifying emerging opportunities and challenges in the region, developing forward-looking strategies, and exploring new partnerships to accelerate the energy transition. Additionally, they will provide guidance to partners, monitor project deliverables, and advise on risk management and reporting.

**Duties and Responsibilities are as follows**:
**Management of Program Leads**
- Manage a team of passionate and experienced program leads, including, but not limited to, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Organisational Development, providing them with the right guidance and empowering them to do their best work.
- Manage and support regional program leads as the organization grows.
- Working alongside the program leads to proactively scanning the countries and regional policy, energy, and economic environment for emerging challenges and opportunities for Tara’s work. This may include developments in the public, private, and people sectors including but not limited to policy developments, changes in the regulatory framework and legislation, corporate investments, etc.

**Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning**
- Overall responsibility for maintaining and improving Tara’s Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning program, working with a Regional Data Lead to maintain systems to monitor and track our organisational and program-related objectives and key performance indicators
- Responsible for producing Tara’s annual Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning report for key stakeholders
- Responsible for ensuring that Tara continuously utilises data to inform our programming and strategy, and ensure that this data is managed and kept updated in an accessible format.

**Strategy**
- Develop a forward-looking approach to strategy, analyzing where the region will need to be in five years' time on energy transition and supporting program teams to develop strategies fit for meeting future challenges.
- Identify areas where a regional strategy is required to complement national strategies to accelerate the energy transition and lead the development and implementation of at least one regional thematic program area
- Contribute to an active international network of re-granters and strategists on the energy transition needs of the region.

**Grant management**
- Guidance and advice to partners and prospective partners in the field to ensure activities achieve their intended objectives and results.
- Monitor deliverables and submissions from partners and provide general oversight of their timeliness and quality.
- Advise the operations team on specific legal/operational/risk requirements for grantmaking in Bangladesh and Pakistan.
- Advise programme directors/senior management on any potential risks and recommend mitigation measures when needed.Assist the Regional Program Director with reporting to funders and proposal development, and other duties as assigned.

**Knowledge and experience**:

- At least 10 years of relevant work experience, gained in either local or international foundations, donor agencies, NGOs or clean energy-related companies or financial institutions;
- A good grasp of the energy system and its interlinkages to climate change, including an understanding of the barriers and opportunities for accelerating energy transition;
- At least 3+ years' experience in leadership positions, with experience managing experienced team members;
- Experience working in the Asia region;
- Demonstrated strategic thinking capabilities, and demonstrable ability to translate strategy into implementation;
- Demonstrated understanding of the role that civil society organisations play, especially in Asia;
- Demonstrated ability to maintain trusting professional relationships across different sectors, and a diverse group of partners, including many working in different cultural contexts;
- Experience working with philanthropic funders or bilateral or multilateral donors and an understanding of how to build and sustain a successful partner network a plus;
- Excellent written and oral English language skills and written and oral fluency in another Asian language preferable
