Finance Manager

**The Role
The PL Re Asia Business Unit (BU) comprises of 2 branches (Singapore and Korea) and 2 representative offices (Japan and China) serving markets across Asia.

The Finance Manager is the Asia Finance Lead on the front office deals (including novelty and ARS) to ensure financial and operational implications/risks are considered and effective solutions are in place. In addition, the role also responsible for all key finance controls and ensuring all finance controls documents are updated timely. The Finance Manager will have to ensure changes from change of finance processes relating to front office deals and updates of finance controls documents are communicated to key stakeholders.

The role reports to VP, Finance, Asia and key stakeholders are Asia Finance BAU teams, Business Services, Marketing, Legal teams as well as Divisional counterparts (for e.g. Division Finance). To be effective, the role is expected to build and maintain strong collaborative partnership with stakeholders within Business Services and Asia Finance BAU teams and be able to lead, influence without direct reporting lines.

The Finance, Corporate Actuarial, Operations, Project and Portfolio Management form the Business Services function in Asia. This role together with Financial Reporting, Internal reporting and FP&A teams form the Asia Finance.

**Duties
Finance lead for reinsurance transactions including novelty and ARS treaties (Deal team & ARS team):
1. Responsible for the accounting methodology under required reporting bases for novel reinsurance transactions, this includes:

- Documenting and facilitating the internal approval of accounting methodology, covering the reporting requirements (statutory and internal); and
- Liaising with external auditors, where relevant, to agree methodology.

2. Responsible for the establishment of financial systems (GL code etc), and processes required to execute novel reinsurance transactions.
- Working with Asia BU and Division to ensure the process and requirements are properly set up;
- Creating process maps and documentation detailing end-to-end finance and accounting processes to execute the novel reinsurance transactions; and
- Ensuring robust controls are built into the process, with compliance to internal and external policies and regulations.

3. Responsible for overseeing and handover of the established finance and accounting processes for novel reinsurance transactions to BAU team.
- Providing training to BAU team if required for accounting these reinsurance transactions.

4. Responsible to review treaty agreements.

Ensure the Asia Finance control documents are updated timely, and changes are implemented. This also include review and sign-off of banks’ users access and attending to requests from banks for example, KYC Due Diligence documentation.

Lead business continuity management related activities for Asia Finance Team including maintain and update Business Impact Analysis (BIA) and Business Continuity Plan (BCP) for Asia Finance team.

Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, internal and group policies as are relevant to the role

Robustly review current finance processes, identify and implement initiatives for continuous improvement.

Participate and support in ad hoc tasks

**Qualifications & Experience**
- Possess a Degree in Accountancy or equivalent
- At least 10 years’ experience in financial operations and reporting of life insurance / reinsurance companies
- Good sense of internal controls and procedures
- Good understanding of the USGAAP reporting
- Proficient in English and able to communicate effectively with people from different countries and cultures
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- Work well in a team environment
- Motivated to take ownership of work and to seek further responsibilities
